She took off her coat and put it on the floor next to his door along with her boots, then wandered over to him, mixed between angry at him and happy to see him.
Grumbles.
Tracey sat on the ladder that came down from his bed, peering through the rungs at him.
"It doesn't seem fair that I'm the one that has to work for the answers when I'm the one that was dumped."

She hugged herself to keep from bursting into aggravated tears and sat there, staring across the room to Miles' roommate's bed.

He sat up in his chair and looked at her directly.
"Tracey," he said slowly, his voice deep and serious, "if I asked you, right now, to be with me - to drop anyone else and just choose me - what would you say?"

Tears welled up in her eyes.
"I would ask you why you've chosen now to suddenly reappear, and why you left in the first place, and if you I could trust you to not do it again."
She replied to him in such a small voice that it was obvious that her air supply was being cut off by that horrible heart-lump in her throat.
Most of her wanted to say yes... especially after her talk with Marlow.

"I'm being serious, Miles."
She stepped down off the ladder and ducked underneath his bed, sitting down on the ground next to his chair, bringing her knees up into her chest to hug them. She looked up at him expectantly.
"I'll repeat it, then. Why did you leave, what made you come back, and are you going to leave again?"

The look she gave him made him feel the guilt he kept trying to push away. Miles clenched his fists together, keeping himself as calm as he could around Tracey and keeping his eyes focused on her.

Tracey put one hand out, hesitated for a moment, then she gently laid her hand on his leg to try and ease whatever tension it was he was feeling.
He might have his eyes clouded but she could pick up on the subtle changes over the years, even if she was never sure what emotion they stemmed off of.

"I don't regret kiss you," he said softly.

"You seemed like you were so angry with me because I didn't sleep with you."

"But when have I ever been angry at you for not sleeping with me? I don't know why you thought I would start now."

"The rules have kind of changed though, you know? Every time is different. Who knows. You're not telling me."
She stared at his fingers tracing the lines of her hand.
