Milesy-Moo ;)

Tracey honestly hadn't even heard of Hipwort Hall until Miles posted it into her journal. She stared at the name, and then spent ten minutes feeling like a massive nerd as she searched her torn-to-hell first year map for the said hall ( Read more... )

Miles sat on the chair under his loft bed, leaning back away from his computer as he read over people's journals. When he heard the knock at his door, he lifted his wand and opened it magically for Tracey to come in.

Tracey entered, though she hadn't verbally been invited in. Once again... the non-verbal communication was a little frustrating. It was like he was trying to prove a point- he didn't have to say come in for her to understand.

She took off her coat and put it on the floor next to his door along with her boots, then wandered over to him, mixed between angry at him and happy to see him.

Grumbles.

Tracey sat on the ladder that came down from his bed, peering through the rungs at him.

"It doesn't seem fair that I'm the one that has to work for the answers when I'm the one that was dumped."

He peered at her, barely lifting his head to do so.

"Opinion."

Tracey sighed and looked away from him, in utter disbelief. Why did she find this attractive? Why did she love this? It just made so much sense!

She hugged herself to keep from bursting into aggravated tears and sat there, staring across the room to Miles' roommate's bed.

Miles was about to say that he didn't meant to piss her off, but that would be a lie. He didn't enjoy her being upset as much as he would have hoped though.

He sat up in his chair and looked at her directly.

"Tracey," he said slowly, his voice deep and serious, "if I asked you, right now, to be with me - to drop anyone else and just choose me - what would you say?"

Tracey's heart swelled up into her throat, cutting off her oxygen supply, making her head spin and the room seem far away. She didn't look back at Miles, but continued to look at the bed across the room that reminded her so much of her friend Andy.

Tears welled up in her eyes.

"I would ask you why you've chosen now to suddenly reappear, and why you left in the first place, and if you I could trust you to not do it again."

She replied to him in such a small voice that it was obvious that her air supply was being cut off by that horrible heart-lump in her throat.

Most of her wanted to say yes... especially after her talk with Marlow.

He glanced to his hands on his lap before forcing himself to keep his eyes one her (he so rarely had to to force that).

"Isn't it tragic how quickly I can make you cry?"

"I think it's more tragic how quickly I'll forget about it and let you back into my life," Tracey told him, picking at a few stray pieces of fabric on the knees of her jeans where they were torn. They were her favorite pair and had actually been ripped on accident.

"You didn't answer my question."

'You technically didn't ask a question."

"Do you honestly have to play your little games right now?" Tracey asked him, finally turning around on the ladder to look at him in exasperation.

"I'm being serious, Miles."

She stepped down off the ladder and ducked underneath his bed, sitting down on the ground next to his chair, bringing her knees up into her chest to hug them. She looked up at him expectantly.

"I'll repeat it, then. Why did you leave, what made you come back, and are you going to leave again?"

He answered them in order. "I wanted to see if it would help you. I couldn't stay away. And I don't know, but I hope not."

The look she gave him made him feel the guilt he kept trying to push away. Miles clenched his fists together, keeping himself as calm as he could around Tracey and keeping his eyes focused on her.

"And the other night?" Tracey asked him now, her eyes shining, the tears at bay for now. She noticed his fists but said nothing of it. She was already pushing her luck.

Tracey put one hand out, hesitated for a moment, then she gently laid her hand on his leg to try and ease whatever tension it was he was feeling.

He might have his eyes clouded but she could pick up on the subtle changes over the years, even if she was never sure what emotion they stemmed off of.

He thought back to the night he'd kissed her and then, after she told him to stop, how he'd left. Miles let his eyes slide to her hand, lifting it into his own.

"I don't regret kiss you," he said softly.

"You just..." Tracey said slowly, biting her lip as his hand found hers and the warmth of it spread through her fingers, up her arm, and continued on.

"You seemed like you were so angry with me because I didn't sleep with you."

"I knew that's what you believed," he nodded, tracing her fingers with one of his own, keeping his eyes focused on her hand instead of her face.

"But when have I ever been angry at you for not sleeping with me? I don't know why you thought I would start now."

"I don't know," Tracey said honestly, leaning toward his touch. She opened her fingers to let his have more to trace.

"The rules have kind of changed though, you know? Every time is different. Who knows. You're not telling me."

She stared at his fingers tracing the lines of her hand.
