so, Michael Jackson' death. 2 weeks later & it's still making headlines in newspapers & magazines everywhere. it's kind of incredible how the reaction to his death is on the same level of if some royalty died. well, i guess he was royalty in the music world - the king of pop. i can't say i grew up with his music. in fact, he wasn't in any corner of my mind for the past few years, until i opened Google news on June 25 while at work. i actually wanted to find some news on how Spain lost to USA in the Confederation Cup, but instead i got the headline "Michael Jackson dead at 50". can't say it wasn't a shocker. i proceeded to text Xtie in all caps haha. thanks to extreme boredom at work, i was able to read ALL the news regarding his death - the drugs, his kids, his ranch, his family, his will, his memorial service...so i know everything about it inside out now. plus it has been on the news every night for 2 weeks straight. it's hard to imagine anyone else's death warranting that kind of media coverage.
i've always been neutral toward MJ, child molestation allegations & all. i just didn't understand why a perfectly good-looking black man would want to bleach his skin white. i think it's clear that he had some psychological & possible drug abuse problems, but that doesn't take away from what he has done for music, for dance, & quite simply, for humanity. Heal the World remains as my favorite MJ song. We Are The World is a great song too (he wrote it for the famine in Ethiopia). so simple but compelling. i don't know why he bleached his skin white (if he did...?), or why he invited young boys to sleepovers in Neverland, or why he felt the need to build Neverland in the first place, but everyone has their own reasons for whatever they do. just because we don't understand MJ doesn't mean we can accuse him of being a paedophile or call him "Wacko Jacko". i think all this hoopla regarding his death may be cos the media kept ridiculing him for the past few years. now he's gone & all of a sudden they're loving & worshiping him. not that there's anything wrong with that, but they could have kept it positive the whole time. but yeah, negativity & celebrity scandals sell. no wonder some ppl say the media killed him.
anyway, Paris Jackson was the best part of the memorial service. ♥ as an 11-year-old being exposed in public for the first time, speaking in front of thousands of ppl must have took extreme courage. i hope all his kids turn out nice & normal, even after the custody battles that are about to ensue.
R.I.P. ♥
