A brand new shiny tutorial

Apr 17, 2006 15:48

This is my very first tutorial, so it might not be the best, but I tried :)
Please leave some feedback, and feel free to show me what you come up with! This all looks a bit messy ><
From this:

To this:

1) Duplicate your base 3 times and set all the layers to
screen. It should look like this now:

2) Duplicate the top screened layer and set it to softlight
just to make it a bit darker.

3) Now, Duplicate the softlight layer and Desaturate it (CTRL+SHIFT+U). Then set it to screen.

4) Now comes the colouring (A nifty little trick learnt from _chokeanddie or dekolette):
Make a new layer and fill it with #FFF8E9, Set this to multiply.
Then make another new layer and fill it with #FFC4D7, set this to softlight and lower the opacity to 54%.
Then make another new layer and fill it with #A5FFFA, set this to colour burn.

5) Now comes the sort of tricky part? Select the whole icon (CTRL+A)
and then hold onto (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+C) to copy everything, then paste it (CTRL+V).
Then hit (CTRL+U) and set the saturation to +41.

6) Make a new layer and fill it with #A6DAE9 and set it to
colour burn.

7) Now go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer >Selective Colour.

Set as follows:

Add some text to it, decorate it, brushes, anything!

And VOILA... A brand new shiny Supernatural icon :)

Of course, you need to experiment with different colours and
things according to different caps. This method doesn't seem to work for all
icons :( Happy iconing!
