In no particular order:

  • BABY IS NOT A LANGUAGE /linguist rant
  • LOL I find Gareth Roberts' stuff so enjoyable and this was mostly no exception. The alien plot was thin on the ground, but who cares, all of Moffat's episodes being so plot-heavy more than make up for it IMO.
  • Matt Smith and James Corden have great comedic chemistry and I found myself fond of Eleven in this episode mostly, which was nice. The Doctor/Craig bromance is sweet; I don't want a male companion as the solo companion because too many dicks on the dancefloor, but in the odd episode here or there I guess it's fun. I aww'd a bit at Craig giving him the Stetson.
  • The partner/companion exchange cracked me up.
  • Still call bullshit on 200 years going by for Eleven and nothing really happening.
  • Liked the moments of introspection with the Doctor mostly talking to himself (or Alfie). Eleven needs moar emotions so it was nice to get some of that. I've said it like a hundred times but I do think Matt Smith is a good actor, so it's always nice to me when he gets the chance to show it off.
  • Soooo what the hell is Amy famous for? Are we going to find out? Does she just have a perfume? How does one go about getting a perfume without already being famous? Isn't "the smell of dust after the rain" probably not a great fragrance? I had a lot of feelings prepared when I found out she was a "model" but now I'm just confused about whether she's a model or a celebrity for something else -- I find it weird that a little girl would recognize her if she was just a perfume model.
  • I'm going to punch fandom in the face when I inevitably find people talking about how Eleven is so much better than Ten because he is all ~noble about his death and not whiny and emotional.
  • These episodes that hinge on the power of parental love seem to really emphasize, in a bad way, how few fucks Amy and Rory gave about Melody. Unless episode 13 ends with them magically getting their baby back, I am remain seriously unimpressed with everyone calling the thematic shots in this season.
  • When he was talking to the kids at the end I was like NO ELEVEN, YOU HAVE RUINED THE LIVES OF ENOUGH YOUNG CHILDREN, DO NOT MAKE THEM OBSESSED WITH YOU. DON'T YOU DARE.
  • So I really liked this episode until suddenly it got plot-heavy with River at the end and I found myself zoning out of this ridiculous fucking plot. Alex Kingston tries so, so hard but I just hate so much of what they've decided to do with River this season and it leaves me very conflicted. When I think of her as Dr River Song, I like her; but once I remember she is Melody Pond and ~Melz~ and all that I just want to hit Moffat upside the head. So she is the Astronaut? Or is there going to be another last-minute change? Do I care? Not really, at this point. I think it's incredibly cheap to have an entire plot that hinges on no one remembering things they did themselves, which is most of River Song's life story, apparently. Like HUR HUR SHE'S THE VILLAIN BET YOU DIDN'T GUESS THAT DUE TO IT NOT MAKING ANY SENSE BUT WELL IT'S BECAUSE SHE COULDN'T REMEMBER BECAUSE I SAID SO LOL. Fuck off, Moffat.
  • Likewise, IDK about River's entire life being stalking the Doctor through history. I just... can't with her whole plotline anymore.
