I hate updating this, escpecially twice within an hour... but whatever. Don't read it if you don't want to.
I've started to realize some stuff. Ninety-nine percent of things this world values as being "important" really aren't important at all. Sports. Music. School. Careers. Cars. Houses. Etc.
All of those things are beautiful gifts from God, but our society places so much emphasis on them that they take precedence over the Creator. We use our athletic abilities to gain fame and fortune, but seldom acknowledge the Source of those talents. We use our words and instruments to blaspheme our God. We let material possessions take over our lives and greedily horde what we've accumulated as if we truly own it. Don't you get it? NONE OF THIS IS GOING WITH YOU! You can live in a 30,000-square foot mansion or a 5x5 box on the street, neither of those dwellings are going to matter the second your life is through. No one is going to care how much you accumulated.
I am so sick and tired of being bombarded with images of what "good living" is, products I "absolutely need," and ways to "enhance my intimate experiences." How can we sit here and accept all of this? Our country is going down the drain, and all we can do it sit here and enjoy the half-naked girls in rap videos and lament about how it's "that other guy" who has the problem. WE ARE ALL THE PROBLEM!!!!!
I know that most of the people who read this are Christians (if you're still reading at this point...). What are we doing? How are we changing things? What STANDARD are we setting? Speaking for myself, I am lousy, not even worth the dust that created me. Do we go ninety miles an hour down the freeway thinking it's alright because everyone else is doing it and they can't pull everyone over? Are we going too far with our boyfriends/girlfriends, but rationalizing it because we love them "so much"?
High tatus and possession are such disgusting epedemics... WE DO NOT NEED TO BE FIRST! WE DO NOT NEED TO BE THE FASTEST, THE BEST, THE PRETTIEST, THE SMARTEST, etc.
Our culture has shocked us to the point where nothing is truly shocking. Sex and violence on TV are commonplace, blatantly disgusting images and actions are accepted because they're "not so bad." WAKE UP! Take a look around. Where is God being glorified in our society? How are we reflecting the love that God so graciously and unconditionally pours out upon us even though we don't deserve any of it? Think about that. God does not owe us anything. We deserved to be wiped out a long time ago, but God loves us so much that He's given us LIFE. Really think about that. Without God's perpetual love for us, WE WOULD NOT BE HERE. We owe every aspect of our lives to Him, He deserves to be glorified in everything we do.
I wrote this mostly to myself because it is what I need to hear.
