So I read both Divergent and Insurgent (by Veronica Roth) today, and I really, really want the third book to be available. Sadly, it's not. Because Insurgent only came out this year.
For those not familiar with this series, it's another utopian/dystopian society. It's futuristic, like the Hunger Games; divided into sections of society, also like HG; but there are no kiddie death matches. It's also somewhat unclear if it's also post-apocalyptic.
Anyway, I'm going to whine about the not-as-good-as-it-should've-been editing job. It's only noticeable to me in Insurgent, but there are some bits where it clearly wasn't read by someone paying enough attention.
There're places where information from Divergent is recalled incorrectly, and then the part that drove me the most nuts is a 4 page scene where the main character (Beatrice aka Tris) alternately has a stunner, a gun, a stunner, and then no weapon at all. Except that the scene ends with her having no weapon, which means she couldn't have done half the things she did in the scene, like threaten somebody with a gun. Except she can't have threatened someone with a gun because she started with a stunner and no gun. But then she had no weapon, because she left it in another room, so she couldn't have done any of it anyway.
I did like it, though, and would recommend it if you're into that sort of thing. I think if you like HG then you'll like this. There's lots more things to say, but I read two 500 page books today (though the font was kind of big), so I should probably go to sleep.
