I've been going to the gym, consistently, 3 days a week for almost the entire month of April. I'm pretty proud of myself. So far I've just been doing indoor cycling (spinning class) and then strength training, primarily in an effort to save my knees and hips, but I think next week I'm going to start incorporating running since I think I've built up enough muscle to keep my knee and hip problems from flaring up. Several months ago I found a couple of Couch-to-5k (C25k) workouts that are both written out and set to music, which makes it easier to time yourself for the running/walking bits. That is, you don't need to time yourself at all because the beat of the music changes (and I think one of the two workouts I have also has verbal cues) to let you know if it's time to switch from one to the other.
I bought a heart rate monitor watch with a chest strap, too, and used it for the first time today. It was kind of interesting to see what my actual heart rate was without having to interrupt my stride to grip those heart rate contact thingys on the gym equipment. Plus, there aren't any built in heart rate monitors on the spinning class bikes so I had no earthly idea what my heart was doing unless I slowed down to take it manually. The chest strap was a little bit uncomfortable, mostly because I hate tight clothing (sports bra and socks excepted) when I'm working out. I don't think it's something I won't get used to, however, so it shouldn't be a problem. It was also surprisingly not uncomfortable when I laid down to do crunches, which was a bonus.
I broke my necklace at the gym, though. I'm disappointed but also baffled. I take it off and generally thread it through one of the zippers on my bag and when I pulled my back out of the locker after my workout I wasn't paying attention and caught the necklace on the locker. The result is a broken clasp. The baffling part is the fact that I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what happened. The clasp is broken, yes, but it's also not actually damaged. The pieces pulled apart, but there is no break anywhere that I can see. Nor can I see any way whatsoever to put the pieces back together. It's like they just passed through one another. Either that or it's like that magic ring trick where those solid rings are all connected until they're not, and then separated until they're not. Completely baffling.
In other news, I have to get blood drawn again tomorrow. Sigh.
In other other news, I'm going to AMC's Ultimate Marvel Marathon on May 3! I'm not super into the Marvel movies (actually, I've only seen Ironman 1 and Thor), but I'm not not into them so I thought it would be fun. Unfortunately, I will be going by myself since Thursdays are kind of hard for other people. Not that I have a problem going by myself, but it would've been more fun with people I know.
onlyonechoice has been giving me Avengers tips, but if anyone else wants to add things they think I should know, please do!
I'm just getting into Doctor Who (new Who), too. I'm only about three episodes in, but I'm liking it very much :) Cheesy sci-fi, woo!
How it works, if you want to take part: Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random.
Then post that list with your answers to your journal. By commenting to it, others can get lists from you, and so we keep the meme running across the globe.
1. Seven Deadly Sins - which is your favorite?: Probably sloth. I love lounging around, especially if it involves being cuddled in super-soft blankets :)
2. You've been accepted into Star Fleet - here's your red shirt ... so you ????: Run like hell, then find someone to swap shirts with. Forcibly if necessary :D
3. Favorite fan fic story?: Ooh, this one's hard. I'm not sure I have an all-time favorite fic so much as favorites in different fandoms and some favorite authors. These are some of the fics, by fandom
NCIS:
Rictus - Sequitur (it's a Pit link, but the story's fabulous, I promise).
Interrogative - The Hoyden
SGA:
Inhabited - Martha Wilson.
The Right Place - LtLJ

4. In your next life, you are definitely coming back as a ???: Hmm...maybe a cat, because I'd rule the world and get cuddles.
5. I think the television show that should NOT have been cancelled is: Freaks and Geeks! And Arrested Development.
6. Candlelight dinner, picnic or ?: Picnic dinner and stargazing. Or just hot chocolate and stargazing.
7. Here is your free ticket to anywhere. Where are you going? (May I come along?): Right now the place I'd love to go is Hawaii. You are absolutely invited! :D
Also, dammit! The Bruins just lost Game 7. :(
