Ghosts by Ninjacat [One-shot. Romance/Angst. NaruSaku. PG.]
Summary: In a life after Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura pick up the pieces and salvage a life without him. A series of drabbles written 6 months before the Time Jump. A very grim ‘What If’.
Quote:
He is far more affectionate than usual when he’s like this; never angry, never hurtful. He is quiet and gentle and his blue eyes are red-rimmed and glisten like open wounds.
Sakura can’t bear to look at him, but she’ll hold him when he lays his head on her breast and wraps his arms around her waist. She kisses his forehead and the questions come. They always do.
Neighbors by
rhoddlet [Oneshot. Angst. Sasuke and Naruto. PG.]
Summary: Sasuke and Naruto. A study in contrast.
Quote:
There was a reason why all the girls who had crushes on him were the ones who got to live with their families. Orphan girls knew better.
Taken out of context, this quote really doesn't do this fic any justice at all. Detached and matter of fact with an ending that just stabs and stabs, this fic truly is a study in contrast of Sasuke and Naruto.
Motions in Stilted Time by
horses_and_men [One-shot. Angst. SakuSasu and Others. PG-13.]
Summary: Could have. Should have. Would have.
Quote:
The day Sakura got married, her mother cried as she finished doing her make-up.
“There,” said her mother, wiping a tear as she pinned the last blossom into Sakura’s expertly piled hair, “now you’re beautiful. Like a flower.”
And she was.
Six Years Later by superdeath [One-shot. Angst. ShikaNaru. NaruSasu. PG-13]
Summary: Six years ago, you would have thrown up until all you could do was dry heave into the toilet. Today, it seemed a petty occurrence. You are no longer twelve years old and stupid.
Quote:
If anyone asked you now what you thought of Uchiha Sasuke, you would elaborately tell them that you didn’t give a flying fuck, only with more flowers and bells around the main idea.
This... scratched. It's compact and to the point, nothing wasted. I loved how it was punctuated with little effortless observations that were just -there-. The prose style embodies Shikamaru beautifully, and that's what made this little piece so effective.
