She stayed awake the rest of the night, silently watching the light he radiated in her second sight. She glanced to the antique timepiece upon her bedside table... 6:57 AM. Not long before dawn. She had only taken the small nap just prior to him sneaking into her lab, but it would have to suffice. She had made it days at a time with less. Removed of her bedclothes, she dressed in a plain, black dress much the same as the one she'd worn the day before; a skirt that fell to her knees in pleats with a form-fitting bodice buttoned up to her neck with long sleeves. Worn leather boots laced to her knees and the whip she'd retrieved from her lab the night before was coiled and belted to her right side. Later in the morning she would venture out on the surface with a small party to meet an informant, but not before she would make her offer to the devil in her guest room.

That same feeling of wrongness still bothered her, but she could not give what he wanted unless she knew what he would do with it. Dante was one of a handful of hunters still alive who could remember the world before Hell's gates opened. As far as she knew, he was one of even fewer of those who could still fight. Whatever he was doing in former Los Angeles was his business, though she knew there were no resistance groups led by him. Had every hope for humanity gone hiding underground to wait it out? There was nothing to wait for... if things continued as they were it was only a matter of time before the demons figured out how to venture underground without being bothered by the magnetic pull within the earth's crust. Worse yet, devils could begin hunting in earnest, and they were not so hampered as their lesser kin. She had proved that by keeping Pet alive for her research.

When the door to the guestroom opened, she took a deep breath and made her offer, without any pretense of asking how he'd slept or bidding him good morning. "I pride myself in few things, Angelo. Judging character is one of them... but you are a hard man to read easily. I can't give you Dante's whereabouts without knowing what you would do... and I do not know you well enough to take you at your word." She sighed softly, "But such as things are... I wish to believe you. I offer - at great risk - a place here for you until I can ascertain your qualities for good or ill, and if you stay we will see how things progress. We are always in need of extra help, and the stay would not be completely free. Still... it is the best I can manage." There, as nice as she could put it and in a softer tone than she would normally use. It was now up to him.
