Well Then

I had two auditions today.

I knew first years weren't going to be cast.

So why did some of them get callbacks?

Why am I not one of them?

I Am Shit.

I do make a hot Geisha, though.

Muffin chum, oh sweet muffin chum, don't take it so hard. Coming from the mouth (fingers?) of someone who has directed before, directors don't cast people on talent alone, which I am certain that you have in spades ( ... )

It's really a matter of principle. The first years who got callback still aren't going to get cast, there's tonnes of upper level students who need the performance credits. Basically, what's been theorized is that they got callbacks to recognize their outstanding auditions. Basically, these 4 or more students are practically guarenteed entry into the second year program, unless they really blow their year-end auditions. 4 spots taken, 12 left for the rest of us to fight over like hobos over a pizza crust.

Mmm. Pizza crust.

The way I see it, rather then getting down on yourself over it, you should be taking it as a challenge. Something to aspire to rather than calling yourself shit, hun. You can do better than them and you can do better than that. But you won't get anywhere if you just dwell on it and get upset over it.
You have the capacity, hun. I know that for a fact.

That's what people keep telling me to do. Funny thing about actors... from what I've gathered, we're the people with the lowest self-esteem... and we subject ourselves to situations where we have to deal with rejection all the time. Something about that just reeks of emotional-masochism.

Anyway, it's just that as the rejection piles up, I stress out over "what the hell am I doing wrong?!"

Then perhaps you should ask the directors where you can improve for next time. Just because they didn't call you back doesn't mean they won't be civil enough to tell you where you have room to better yourself.
