Mary Murphy is the So You Think You Can Dance judge who keeps on crying...and crying...and crying.
But her most recent tears have nothing to do with being moved by any SYTYCD contestant.
Murphy is set to make her Broadway debut next month in the ballroom show Burn the Floor. First up will be a one-night only gig on Dec. 22 benefiting a domestic violence center in her hometown of San Diego, followed by a monthlong run starting Jan. 12.
She began rehearsals last week in NYC...
"It's so surreal to me," Murphy tells me. "Ballroom dancers have never had this kind of opportunity before. I got up there on that stage and I just started crying."
While those are happy tears, it does sound like there could be some caused by pain.
"I'm hurting," Murphy admits. "I haven't done anything this strenuous in quite a long time...I was just shocked when they called. I was like, 'I haven't danced like that in 10 or 15 years.' I was thinking, 'Can I really do this?' "
Now that she's back in the game, does she have what it takes for a ticket on her Hot Tamale Train?
"Hopefully, I'll get on the train the first time around in December," she says, laughing. "But if not, I think by January, I'll definitely be on that train."
Murphy's gig with the show begins just after Dancing With the Stars vets Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kym Johnson end a six-week stint. Chmerkovskiy also starred in the show earlier this year with his then fiancé Karina Smirnoff.
It's also the show that Anya and Pasha stared in! Personally, I'd MUCH rather see them than Mary.

"Sad Wednesday" is still the worst day of the week for us So You Think You Can Dance fans, but this week, we're really only weeping for one of the eliminees. The eliminated dancer we'll miss happens to be a girl, but according to executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe, "If America was voting, and we were not doing girl and boy, the girls would be voted off first." Eek! Could that be true? Here's who went home, and here's what we're hearing about that gender divide...
SYTYCD, Noelle, Nathan Joe Viles/FOX
Sweet youngster Noelle Marsh and controversial kiddo Nathan Trasoras went home in the first audience-determined elimination of the season.
Why those two? Perhaps they didn't establish strong enough identities separate from their original, high-personality partners, Mollee and Russell. But when we caught up with judge Mary Murphy backstage after the show, her theory about Nathan's demise was this: "We were kind of shocked that America didn't take to Nathan the first few weeks, because he's an amazing dancer. When you tell the general public that you get everything you want, that's really not endearing, and it really hurt him. You have to be not only a smart dancer, but smart in how you present yourself." (Our theory? Trasoras torpedoed himself with his over-the-top family-related blubbering yesterday, which just reeked of audience pandering.)
Now, as for the season-six overall (and that gender divide we mentioned), Nigel thinks this year's competition is going to a guy. He told us, "We've never had such a diverse group of dancers, particularly in the boys, and I think a boy will win this year. To have ballroom, B-boying, krumping and contemporary, it's stunning...If you get Legacy, you get a guy that can do things others can't do; if you get Jakob you have a brilliant dancer; if you get Ryan, you get a very strong partner; if you get Russell, you get the best charisma of any performer."
So it sounds like the guys are golden, but what about the girls? Who's in the most trouble? According to Nigel, "The growth in Ashleigh has been tremendous for us all to see, because everyone thought she'd be out first week, and little Kathryn could be in trouble again next week. She's great, but I think she could be in trouble again." But little Kathryn is so pretty! Argh!
At the start of the season, it was ALL about the boys for me, but now I completely disagree w/ Nigel. Jacob is the only one I care about, whereas I also adore Ellenore, Kathryn and Noelle.

Sooo Dan Karaty popped back on my TV screen last night, as a contestant on Bravo's Launch My Line (a fashion design competition for amateurs/ the network's 2nd attempt at a Project Runway replacement) AND guess how he did?
*spoiler alert*
He was the first person ousts.
Personally, I thought his outfit wasn't nearly as bad as several others and I was extremely curious to see what else he'd design. And strangely, he was edited to look like a pretty nice guy - not at all like a egotistical little b*tch. Go figure.
Oh and for you new kids wondering how the heck this "Dan Karaty" dude I'm referring to is, he was a hip hop choreographer and judge for the first 4 seasons of SYTYCD.
