Global Consumer Culture always really makes me think.

Today for the Just In Time assignment (which, once again, I didn't do - oh, damn) one of the questions asked something to the extent of have you ever bought something you didn't want or need?

While I can't say, looking around my room, that there is anything in here I don't want or need, I am definately a victim of compulsive shopping. Not so much the "omg that's cute, I'm going to buy it". More like "I feel like shit, I'm going to dye my hair/buy new clothes". I really, really like to buy clothes when I'm in a bad mood/stressed. I am one of those people who goes through "retail therapy".

And yet ...

And yet, being in this class where we're supposed to be like 'gasp, consumerism is the sux!' I find myself just wanting to go out and buy something. Professor Wilk brought up a good point - a lot of people who feel like they have no control over any other section of their life go out and buy things because there they can exercise control (well, in a sense, seeing as their spending could be considered 'out of control'). I don't know if I feel like my life is out of control, really, but I think the shopping thing is true. I like it because I can finally choose what I'm doing.

That said, I want to go spend money.
