Three Torchwood Fics

Dec 24, 2007 01:39

As promised I have fic :D. All three of these were written for writerinadrawer.
I decided to wait a couple of weeks and then post a bunch of them rather than spam everyone with one each week. So there should be a few more in a couple of weeks, or less if I find myself voted into a drawer.
Amazingly they're all gen, maybe hints of slash or future slash in the second two but only if you have your slash goggles on and really squint ;)

Author: _stolendreams_
Rating: PG
Summary: Tosh’s first night on the job.

The creature darted out of the alley in front of them, moving too fast for either of them to react before it barrelled into them. Tosh found herself flat on her back on the ground, just managing to roll over in time to catch a glimpse of green disappearing around the next corner. Before she could catch her breath a hand on her arm was hauling her to her feet.

"Okay?" Owen sounded as out of breath as she was. "Toshiko?" he prompted when she didn't reply. "Are you okay?"

His arm remained on her arm and there was a hint of concern in his eyes, mixed in with irritation at not being able to race after the creature immediately. Unsure that she could speak, Tosh simply nodded.

"Let's go then," Owen was already pulling her down the road as he spoke, not letting go until he was sure she was going to keep going under her own steam.

They managed to round the corner side by side, just in time to see Jack advance towards the creature with restraints in one hand, his gun in the other. Tosh opened her mouth to ask what would happen if someone saw his gun, but then, realising that on the whole most people would probably be more disturbed by the 6ft green alien, thought better of it.

"First time out," Jack commented, stepping back a little to let Owen put the restraints on the creature. "What did you think?"

"Well she's not crying and begging to be sent home to her mother," Owen chipped in before Tosh had had a chance to work out how to properly reply. "So at least she's better than the last one. I don't want to waste all that time training another newbie just to retcon them a week later."

"Toshiko?" Jack asked, eyebrows raised, looking at her now that the creature was safely restrained on the ground.

"She did good," Owen offered after Tosh found herself unable to think of the words to respond.

"You're okay?" Jack questioned her.

Tosh simply nodded. Somehow she never had been taught the correct words to describe how you feel after you've chased a 6ft green alien around the backstreets of Cardiff for the first time in your life.

Title: Careless Memories
Author: _stolendreams_
Pairing: mention of Ianto/Lisa
Rating: PG
Summary: After the events of Cyberwoman, Jack gives Ianto a choice.

For a week after Lisa's death Ianto returns to the basement every night to try to get the blood out of the floor. Jack lets him. He watches him go and he monitors him on the security feed but he never says anything.

One week to the day he follows Ianto down there.

"Come with me," he says and walks away without stopping to look back. There is a brief moment of hesitation and then he hears Ianto's footsteps following him.

Jack doesn't stop walking until he reaches the lift platform then he simply stands there and motions for Ianto to join him. Ianto hesitates, maybe remembering the last time they stood on it together, but then steps up beside Jack. They ride the lift up in silence and then Jack motions for Ianto to follow him across Roald Dahl Plass and down to stand overlooking the water of Cardiff Bay.

"The world didn’t end down there Ianto,” Jack says, speaking for the first time since instructing Ianto to follow him.

“Two people died,” Ianto replies. “Lisa died.”

“Lisa was already dead,” Jack tells him. “That wasn’t Lisa.”

“Are you going to kill me now?” Ianto asks, “Is that why we’re here so that I don’t make a scene?”

“I’m not going to kill you. I’m going to let you decide what you want. You get to choose us or this,” Jack says, waving his arms to encompass everything as he says ‘this’. “You can have a normal life if you want, just say the word.”

“You’ll never trust me,” Ianto says softly. “You and Owen and Tosh and Gwen will never trust me. I know you’ve been watching me on the security cameras ever since. Gwen doesn’t look at me the same anymore. Tosh makes all these excuses to drop by wherever I am, tea and coffee and lost paperwork. Owen doesn’t even make excuses, he just sticks his head round the door and says he’s checking I’m not hiding anything else.”

"You can walk away right now. I promise that by tomorrow it’ll be gone. You won’t remember that night, you won’t remember Canary Wharf. You’ll never ever have heard of cybermen. Or you can stay. You can stay with us and you can earn that trust back. Your choice, Ianto,” Jack turns and walks away.

"What am I supposed to do? Follow you?" Ianto calls after him.

"You're supposed to make a choice, Ianto," Jack turns around to face him.

“I choose to walk away and you take everything, don’t you?” Ianto asks. “You take the good memories with the bad.”

“You know that,” Jack replies. “All or nothing, Ianto. You can’t pick and choose.”

For a moment Ianto stands frozen, his gaze flickering from Jack to the people around them. Then he nods briefly and follows Jack. They fall into step and walk side by side to the paving slab.

Title: Reaction
Author: _stolendreams_
Rating: G
Summary: Owen tries to help Ianto after End Of Days

"I lost a pet once," Gwen heard Ianto say as the door into the Hub opened. She looked up just in time to see Ianto stumble through the door only to be caught at the last moment and hauled upright by Owen.

"A cat," Ianto continued, seemingly unaware that he'd narrowly avoided ending up in a heap on the floor. "Black... or maybe grey. Wandered off. Just walked away and never came back. Just the same except I don't think the Doctor dropped by and picked up my cat. He might have done I suppose, I mean maybe if he really wanted a cat, but I don't think so. He could just get a brand new one, didn't need mine."

Gwen stared from Owen to Ianto and back again, "What's going on?" She asked, confused.

"Don't blame me," Owen muttered, pushing Ianto in the direction of the couch. "Nothing in his file about this happening."

Ianto was silent as Owen pushed him, none to gently, onto the couch. Gwen started to ask what on earth Owen was talking about when, as though he'd never stopped, Ianto suddenly began talking again.

"He'd like it here. He would. Got rats an' everything. And I saw a weasel I think. Might have been a ferret. Down in Lisa's room. Bigger than a rat. Don't know what a weasel would be doing there. Maybe just a really big rat."

Gwen stared at Ianto for a moment before turning back to Owen, "What do you mean nothing in his file? About what?" She paused, looking between Ianto and Owen. "You drugged him!"

"It was a sedative!" Owen protested. "It's harmless. It was just supposed to make him rest for a while. Not my fault nobody put in his file that it does this to him!"

"Why didn't you just tell him to go home and get some sleep?"

"Tried that, got ignored. I just wanted to make sure he didn't pass out on us while we're out in the field, that's all."

"By making him pass out here?"

They both paused, realising Ianto had stopped rambling. Turning to look at him they found him sitting there quietly looking up at them. For the first time Gwen realised just how young Ianto really was. With his tie loose, his hair a mess and all his defences lowered by the sedative Owen had given him, it was suddenly obvious just how much this young man had been through.

"He's not coming back is he?" he asked softly, his eyes fixed unwaveringly on her face.

"Yes Ianto, he's coming back," she answered immediately. She had no idea if it was true or not, no idea if Ianto was talking about Jack or something else altogether, but the loss written so plainly on his face made it impossible for her to do anything but try to comfort him. She crouched down in front of him.

"Lay down," she instructed gently, relieved when he complied without protest. The sedative was clearly starting to do what it was originally meant to do, either that or the exhaustion had finally caught up with him.

"He's coming back," she told him again. "Just close your eyes and rest, he'll be back."

As Ianto's breathing evened out and he finally drifted off to sleep, she hoped she had told him the truth.
