Raymonde de Laroche (1882-1919) was a French pilot who, in 1910, became the first woman in the world to obtain a commercial pilot’s license. She also served as a military driver during the First World War, as flying was considered too dangerous for women.
In 1919 she broke two flight world records, one for altitude and one for distance. Sadly, she was killed in an aviation accident during a time when she was preparing to become the first female professional test pilot.
