Man jailed 15 years for making daughter perform oral sex
By Selina Lum
HE WAS a recalcitrant drug abuser who was absent from his daughter's life until his release from jail at the end of 2005. A couple of months after the 'family reunion', he forced her to perform oral sex on him.
She was only five years old at that time.
Yesterday, the 38-year-old jobless man was jailed for 15 years by the High Court after admitting that he made his young daughter perform oral sex on him six times. He also admitted to sniffing glue.
In sentencing the man, Justice Woo Bih Li said a father should protect and love his daughter, but instead, he took advantage of her to satisfy himself.
'I have no sympathy for you,' said the judge.
The girl, now eight, is in Primary 2. She was born out of wedlock to the man and his girlfriend.
When the girl was six months old, her mother walked out of the family while the man was in a drug rehabilitation centre.
The infant was left in the care of the man's mother, but she later became bedridden from a stroke.
Since 2001, the girl's aunt has been taking care of her. She is the sister of the child's father.
In 2005, the man was released and he moved back in with his family.
The repeated sexual abuse came to light in October last year, when the aunt heard the girl crying on the floor, while her father was reclining on a sofa.
The aunt sensed something was wrong when the girl refused to tell her why she was crying.
She asked the girl to sleep with her, but the man insisted on keeping his daughter by his side while they slept.
The next day, the girl told her aunt what her father had forced her to do.
The aunt then tried to take the girl out of the house but was stopped by the man.
A few weeks later, the aunt reported her brother to the police.
Police officers arrested him two days later and also seized a plastic bag and four tubes of glue.
At a psychiatric examination, the man admitted to a history of abusing heroin and sleeping pills. He also told the psychiatrist that he sniffed glue in front of his daughter.
The man could have been jailed for life.
Why wasn't he jailed for life?
