Quick movie update. I really need to get to bed, as I have an 8:30 class tomorrow. Heh.
John Tucker Must Die - more entertaining than I thought it would be, but still pretty craptastic teen comedy. Still, one cute guy (and no, not the titular John Tucker) who made it interesting.
The Last Kiss - sort of a big meh for me. Why was Zach Braff's character freaking out so hard? He's 29 and it's never occurred to him to grow up? Jesus. I hope that's not really what my generation is like. As always, though, I love Casey Affleck. Blythe Danner was great too.
Little Miss Sunshine - okay, believe the hype, because this movie is AWESOME. The entire cast is pitch-perfect, it's laugh out loud funny but also heartbreaking, there's a dead body in a trunk, Steve Carell in a serious role, references to Proust AND Nietzsche (spelling?), and even a cute guy (Paul Dano, aka Dwayne, the silent angry teen). SO GOOD. The ending made me laugh for ten minutes.
In other news, back in Montreal for my first day of classes today, and now I want to go back home for another vacation. Thinking about all the work I'll have to do this semester, when I'd rather sit around and watch movies, makes my brain hurt. After tomorrow, a better update on my new profs and reading lists.
New year, new goal: 60 books this year. OK, So I didn't make 50 last year, but I'm aiming high. I'm Type A like that. I'm reading Zadie Smith's White Teeth right now, which is SO good - the Little Miss Sunshine of multicultural London circa 1974. No? Okay, it's just good. Read it. You'll love it.
