It's amazingly easy to get this frustrated here

I've got the day off work today as Ned has to do the plumbing for the in-ground we're working on and there won't be a day's work to do there until he's done that. Since my brother Micah and his girlfriend Karla are coming home from Calgary on Saturday, Mom's freaking out about all the work that has to be done to prepare the house for them. I, being home for the day, have been enlisted to help clean.

Mom wants the basement TV room cleaned up. It's unlike most basement TV rooms in that it's not really a room and the piles of stuff being stored there make it so that there's really no place to sit and watch the TV which sits on a stand on top of a stand to be seen over the clutter. There's a little round footrest that Stephen sits on to play PS2 and there's part of a couch to sit on. The other couch and 3 chairs are covered. The floor in front of them is covered. We've got boxes of Christmas cards and wrapping supplies, enough yarn to fill a small room (seriously, we chucked it all into an unused room and it's full now), two TVs that don't work, a garbage bag and couple boxes full of hats, mitts, scarves etc... and more useless trinkets than you can imagine. Not to mention every purse Mom's owned since 1971 and an unmade model of the human female called The Visible Woman, complete with removable front to view organs or replace with a pregnant front.

It becomes my job to do something with it. I can't move it anywhere (the rest of the house is full of stuff - one room full of yarn), I can't put it into the garage (the garage is also full of stuff), I can't throw it out because Mom has to approve everything we throw out and she's rarely willing to get rid of things, and I can't give up because that's what we always do whenever we try.

I'm thinking of making a video of all this stuff and sending it to one of those home overhaul shows on TLC I hate so much. I remember seeing one where they just clean up your stuff and get rid of your clutter. That's the one we need. I need to go back to bed.
