note: i should have a cut here somewhere but i don't know where so read at your own risk.

i had quite an interesting saturday. basically, there was a power cut and there was no electricity at all for our flat and later on, the whole street, so i couldn't do any work after dark. it was quite nice to just sit in the dark not having to do anything and knowing it's not your fault. i waited for my parents and when they got home, we lighted candles, luckily i have a lot, and it was all pretty and glowy.

we decided to go to a buffet to eat cos there was nothing to do, no lights, no tv, no computer, no microwave, no central heating so no hot water and no hot showers. we drove there ok, but decided to get take away cos it was only £3.80 a box whereas eating in was £11 on fri and sat nights compared to £6.80 on sunday, so we packed it full of delicious meat like roast duck, seafood like prawns, more duck and a specially cooked pork. other silly people were putting loads of rice and vegetables and only a bit of meat. anyway, we got 3 boxes and started driving home.

however, my dad took a wrong turn somewhere and we ended up somewhere near the A22 and managed to ask 2 foreign people in a row where to go, who were clueless. we basically drove through the whole of central london westwards to get to somewhere my dad recognised, so we went to aldgate, then st. paul's and around the museum of london, then past chancery lane station, then holborn and then finally to leicester square and trafalgar square where my dad knew. london is quite pretty in the dark, the christmas lights made it more cheerful and i waved to people in tuxes and dresses going home from the theatre.

so then we decided to go to my parent's cafe cos it was 6.30 and there wouldn't be electiricity still, and though a candlelit dinner would have been nice, we didn't want to eat through our noses. we finally got there and it was a very nice meal and we listened to the radio while we were eating. when we got home, it was 8 o'clock and there was still no electricity, and there was a traffic jam because of 3 fire engines outside a shop, probably because someone had caught fire to something by using candles. i didn't see anything serious happening though. anyway, we lit some candles again and sat around chatting, which was nice, as we hardly ever do that together any more. my mum decided to go to bed and my dad and i lounged on the sofa listening to our mp3 players and then went to bed too. i saw though, that the people opposite my window had lights on, so i tried to turn mine on, and it worked! i went to tell my parents and my dad jumped up and started going on the internet. i watched tv for a bit, found out that peter cook is the comedian's comedian and then went to bed.

so that was my saturday. it's quite funny just how disfunctional life is without electricity. the electricity company said we could get compensation but we can't be arsed.
