teenagers start being mean definitely because they are insecure, especially being freshman around all thse upper-class-people. then they start to develop their security, as they grow older, around this criticism of everyone different than them. so they keep being mean because thats the only way they know how to define themselves. and then if you go apart from that cycle, people will be mean to you, so no one really ever does it because I guess people not liking you is the worst thing that can happen.
anyways I think thats how cliques form, and how they perpetuate. I personally try not to judge people based on what I hear my friends say because my friends say a lot of fucked up shit about a lot of people who I dont have a problem with. I dont usually succeed though because Im one of those people who has developed who they are based upon the opinions of their friends, and based upon opposing the opinions of people who I havent identified with, despite not exactly believing what I say or think that I think.
Im not reading back over this so I hope it makes some sense
I agree with you that a lot of people are mean to others because they personally are insecure. But I'm insecure myself a whole lotta times, and that's the reason I AVOID being mean to people. I think of Karma, lol. I'm like dang. If I talk shit about them, who knows whos gonna go and talk shit about me. I think it has a lot to do with their personality type in general also.
