Here's to the nights we felt alive!

It's time for an update!

Lots has happened since last I wrote, but I won't go into detail about everything....just one thing!

I went to the Ithaca Orientation which was really a great time.  I met some awesome people and I felt like I got closer to the ones I already knew too (namely Mikeo and Aileen).  Probably the best part about Orientation (should that be capitalized?) was meeting this professor who was my acadmeic advisor(Margot, I don't know her last name) and picking out my classes.  She's involved in global sociology and was really fascinating to talk to.  I have been thinking I'd love to travel to/ visit/ live in Africa and she really made some of my goals seem possible.  She's from the Carribbean and her daughter is something like the UN ambassador to Africa?  Or to some country there?  I don't remember exactly, but she has some great connections.  She helped me organize my schedule for next year which is as follows(!): Intro to Sociology, Intro to African Diaspora, "Youth Culture, Rhetoric, and the Purpose of a College Education" (the honor's seminar), Intermediate French II, and Small Group Communication.  I might ditch the last class though; I'm really only taking it because if I don't take at least 15 credits every semester, then I can never be on Dean's List.  :(  But I'm not really sure how important that is.  Does anyone know?  I feel like 5 classes would just be too much in the first semester, especially considering the Honor's seminar which is suppossed to be pretty heavy duty.

So now all I'm doing this summer is working, hanging out with my friends, reading 3 books for IC, and getting ready for college.  This is a good thing, but it made me realize that I really need to find out what I enjoy doing by myself when I'm not busy or checking off a to-do list.  So this is probably good for me.  I mean I think I do actually like being busy, because then I don't have to really think "hmm, what could/should/do I want to do?" haha, but this summer it looks like I will have more time to just kick back poolside or play some guitar or go rollerblading a lot.

Phew, that felt like a long entry.
Goodnight all,
Samantha Summer
