tokyopop

first, i wanted to mention that i actually saw some good songs on mtv. now, i don't really watch mtv, but when i'm in remote control, i sometimes see videos for franz ferdinand, modest mouse, and coheed and cambria. who says indie bands can't be bought out? i don't care if it was "implied" by the fact that "indie" is an obvious contraction of "independent"... the mtv psychology makes my stomach turn... but if they're gonna be brainwashing kids into their corporate idea of what it means to be cool, i guess it's not so bad if there are just more kids with better band shirts. [chronicynicism]

there is a reason why this entry is called tokyopop.
there are these commercials on during adult swim (which i watch religiously) for tokyopop, which produces manga (japanese graphic novels "comicbooks"). the commercial says something about the beginning of the "manga revolution". if the people i know knew manga, even as much as i do (which isn't very extensive), they'd know that 2004 isn't the beginning of anything. i really don't think "sgt. frog" is sparking a revolution... anywhere. EXCEL SAGA might have been considered a revolution, or at least a sensation, when it came out in '97... but i don't know if "psychic academy" is gonna SPEAK to people. [i hear "kiss me kill me" is pretty good, but the premise seems weak - i'd rather read "berserk".]

meh.

i'm gonna microwave some lunch and take a shower.
