lovelovelove.
love.
ok so I'm tired of watching movies for this *^)&*$# film class.
I don't mean that in the way that I'm not enjoying some of the movies. The one I am watching now is particularly good, directed by Wong Kar-Wai, and starring Faye Wong, an HK superstar singer. She's cute in a mischieviously elfin way.
This movie makes me miss HK.
When I was out there, I had a temp job working as a doorman for a fairly upscale club in Lan Kwai Fong district called '97'... I think to commemorate the year the Brits ceded control of HK to China.
It was hot and humid as hell and I was having a rough night since it was so crowded. People in line were going nuts, and I was going nuts right back at them. I got used to getting dirty looks since I cared more about keeping my boss happy with the way things were going outside.
One lady was getting particularly crazy... she looked familiar too and I couldn't figure out why.
'MOVE LADY, OVER THERE'
A few people looking on started laughing at this interaction between us...
*shrug*
Anyways a while later the crowd had died down quite a bit, and my ex came outside with a beer for me and had a smoke.
She started laughing and asked me if I knew who I had snubbed outside during the night. I didn't know much about HK pop culture so all I could mutter was 'who?'
It turns out it was Faye Wong, used to getting the royal treatment when she went out. And she looked familiar because her face was on billboards ads all over. and on tv. and in magazines.
So yeah, I felt pretty dumb, but my ex thought it was hilarious, and my boss didn't really seem to care one way or another.
Faye Wong rules. So does Wong Kar-Wai.
And I miss HK.
