The start of the friendship
Was the turning to the first page
Of that important book you are
supposed to read
Or the iconic first scene of some cult B-Movie,
A black-suited Harvey Keitel slow-motion mosey,
A palpitating stand-off.
But like the film,
The familiarity of 'how are you?'
The question so deliberately asked closed
And your 'P.S, I miss you,' the clichéd footnote
Of wearied banter
As if what you had to say was already in place
Before the dialogue came and connected it up.
