The Laughter

May 14, 2006 22:24

I walked into the vacant house. The laughter leaked through every door. It scratched its way through my ears and burned itself into my mind. I took a step further. The floor creaked. I stopped, scared. Of all the times I've been to this place to be alone, it has never been like this. I used to bring the girl with me. We would sit in silence as if we were praying. I used to feel life in this place, but now it was all dead. It had been ages since I took my last step. Maybe it had only been a minute. Maybe less. I took another step. The floor creaked louder. It too burned its screech into my mind. The laughter got louder. I decided to brave it. I walked. Faster. Faster. I broke into a sprint. I broke through the old wooden door. I fell down with the splinters. I was bleeding. Faster. Faster. Blood streamed. The girl was sitting there, as if she were praying as we used to so long ago. I could still hear the laughter as I was falling unconscious, but this time it was comforting. It almost had life.
