It takes only 10 years for a skinny, flimsy sapling to grow into a towering tree, strong enough to support two kids climbing through it's branches. 10 years for the trunk to grow too large to put your hands around. 10 years for thick, deep green leaves to spring from every new branch. 10 years for golf-ball sized acorns to grow, clinging heavily in tight clusters.
The passage of time is scary. Some pictures show growth...children grow up, people fall in love. The sun sets, it rises...friends visit and family moves away. But flip to the other side of the coin, and the same pictures show pain. People who were strong and healthy at that moment, now weaker. People doing what they love, what they are passionate about, who can no longer do it. Time is uncontrolled, it is a wild thing. It twists and turns and nobody knows where it will go next.
A year is nothing, really.
