oh my golden calf. is it me or was i the only one that thought the new willy wonks me was a piece of underfed chicken shit?
yes, ok, it was closer to the book in some respects but the songs were c-grade and they had no originality, is this the direction of childrens attempted musicals?
and why is every oompa loompa deep roy?! it doesnt make it interesting it just makes one think that they were too tight to hire that many vertically challenged people.
why cant johnny depp say 'oompa loompa'? and why does he speak like a retard? willy wonka is charismatic with many dark undercurrents but not outwardly rude, in the american sense.
i think depp demented willy wonka, he had no right to attempt gene wilders character (by right i mean if he could do a better job, well then go right ahead, but the only reason this will make sales is by burton fans going to see it, and by the way, it being better than 'big fish' doesnt make this film a masterpiece, and oh of course, johhny depp is in it so it will be a box office smash! because he is so sexy and deep and mysterious and an amazing actor and he puts on a deep voice and glasses in interviews to seem more intelligent and mysterious and sexy. i think hes a fuckwit that cant act. as a side note apparently he was in a band that went nowhere so some actor told him to go to hollywood, and here we have him.)
i think they just created a character so they could put christopher lee in, which added nothing, and even though i am a huge fan of christopher lee it was a shit role, and flashbacks? 0_o come on, it was unfounded. ooh psychological twist.
where are we again? the family are british, the shopkeep at the candy store was british, the man offering money was british and the woman was american... and johnny depp was...?
it was a rushed movie, at an hour into it, it still felt like nothing had happened, the characters werent explored it was just assumed you already knew them, the front door at the buckets house was unnecesarily twisted, woohoo for you tim burton, wow look at my funky door, oh yeah and the holes in the roof when its snowing! and helena bonham carter? hehehe (yes yes reused actors i know, a burton trait)
the ending sucked and bar the rest of the stupidities of the movie, changed mr wonka's character way too much, blah blah artistic license but not in the way of wrecking a marvellous book nor a beautiful movie. even the effects, in my opinion, were better in the seventies, and so was the chocolate waterfall and the candy, and the songs, and the oompa loompas, and the storyline even if roald dahl got irate when the editor changed his screenplay... and oh, on and on.
