I just returned from my trip to San Diego to visit
fikshun &
merlinsdaughter and to see the Dresden Dolls.
It was really great to see Mike & Nicole again! You guys are two of the nicest people I know, and I really enjoyed spending the weekend with you. I am so happy that things are going well for you and that you are happy out in Cali.
So many fun things to talk about. In the few says that I was there, Mike & Nicole sprinted me away to some nearby towns (La Jolla & Encinitas) to check out the native life. We saw seals, kayakers, surfers, flowers, cactii, had excellent Mexican food, and found a cool little record store in Encinitas.
Nicole gave me some berfday presents from Germany, YAY Asbach!! We had some good conversations, and I learned a lot from Mike about the video gaming industry. He gets some pretty damn cool perks. I'm a bit envious of the Everquest sword they gave him. Considering the amount of money that "Evercrackers" will pay for virtual shit on e-bay, I bet that sword would command a respectable bid on auction, plus it makes an excellent household defense weapon!
Saturday night, Mike dropped us off at the Epicenter to see the Dresden Dolls. We arrived on time, but the line was horrendously long, and sadly, we missed the first band (The Ditty Bops). I knew that you couldn't smoke at any clubs in Cali, but I found the Epicenter's policy quite laughable. They were patting people down for lighters and cigarettes!! lol Fortunately, I hid mine in the upper pocket of my jacket and made it through with no problems. I guess the Epicenter is a kiddy club, and aside from the older couple in their late 40's having an in depth conversation with Nicole about Rammstein, we were probably the oldest people there. No booze either!! I was really looking forward to combating my jet lag with some Red Bull & Vodka, but unfortunately the drinking had to wait until we walked home after the show.
Despite the short comings of the venue, the show itself was a lot of fun. I enjoyed The Dresden Dolls performance immensely, and have been unable to get their songs out of my head since. I'm sure that some of the passengers on the flight back were looking at me oddly as I tapped away on my seat back tray-table air keyboard and hummed along to non-audible imaginary music.
Damn, I have to get ready for work shortly.
Ciao,
Brian
