Indian love story- Part II

So, here's a bit more

We left Biknar that night on an overnight bus to Udaipur. The bus was freezing, but Nevo and I cuddled all the way and managed to stay warm!! We celebrated the first few hours of my 23rd year with chai at a stinky road-side stop. We laughed a lot on that trip!! Now Udaipur is supposed to be the “most romantic city” in India, and it definitely was for us! Our hotel, Shiva, looked over the gorgeous lake and we could see the Palace Hotel, and Monsoon Temple from the rooftop restaurant. We arrived in Udaipur on February, 9th …my birthday. That morning, while I was getting my eye brows threaded, Nevo disappeared. I thought he was lost, which he was for a bit, but he eventually showed up at our meeting place. We spent the day in the back alleys of the city, walking in the busy markets, away from all the hussle bussle of the tourist sights.

We were walking by a building when I noticed children playing inside a yard. We soon found out it was a school, and the headmaster invited us in. We chatted with the teacher for a bit and exchanged smiles with the kids. When we left I told Nevo that we should get something for the kids, and he was so sweet about it. He suggested school pens, because that’s what every child in India asks for, and we also bought lots of candy and a few Indian cookies for the teacher. The kids were ecstatic and Nevo was just so incredible through the whole thing. He was patient and really interacted well with the kids…awwww!!

That night, we had an amazing meal on top of a roof, with a panoramic view of the lake and city. The sun set right as we were finishing our food. We decided to catch a Bollywood flick, as it was too late to go on a boat ride on the lake. We headed back to the hotel to grab our jackets and Nevo told me to close my eyes and to put his sweater on my head. After a really long time, I opened my eyes and there in front of me was a beautiful heart shaped cake, and a box covered with 24 candles (one for next year)! Haha, that morning Nevo had gone and found a bakery and he had been carrying the cake in his bag all day! I was so happy… it was definitely one of the sweetest birthday gifts that I had ever had. Considering the circumstances, it was extremely spontaneous and thoughtful!!

That night, we were intimate for the first time, and it was just incredible! The SATC episode where Carrie and Aiden are together and she says, “Neither of us were virgins, but this was definitely virgin territory,” definitely sums it up!

That boy’s passion was just explosive. He was just in tune with everything, and so open and affectionate. I knew we matched each other in matters of the mind…we in a way both thought in the same way. We were both clever with words and could notice small details about people and places, but I have never met a boy who pays so much attention to caressing and embracing. I usually cannot fall asleep in someone’s arms…I have to eventually move away and have my own space, but sure enough the next morning I was still lying there with Nevo’s arms around me…Oooff…can you want anything else?

So, we took our time getting up the next morning, and the next day. We had a very fun dinner in a thunder storm. The lights went out and we sat on a balcony, lit up by candlelight, listening to the sound of pouring rain!! We tried to go to Monsoon Palace, but the park was closed, so we caught a really sweet Indian movie. We sat at the back and ate Indian goodies and cuddled! On our last day in Udaipur, we drove to this guy’s house to see if we could buy some opium, but the stupid Indian guys charged us way too much and then dropped the price way too low and by that point we had lost interest! We visited the Palace Museum, and took a rickshaw to Sagar Lake. There we climbed a small, but very thorny hill, climbed over a wall and stepped into a beautiful garden that led to an ancient site overlooking the lake. We sat and saw the most beautiful sunset. We sat on an edge of a brick window, smoked, got a little visit from a confused Indian guard, and talked and talked and talked. Nevo told me about his dreams, which were simple, yet wonderful. I listened and we both tried to hold on to the minutes…but as always they soon fly away when you are in those special moments!

We got to the bus station quite late, and we were forced to take one sleeper and one seat. I was feeling hot, and I had just used a really nasty Indian toilet. Overall I was feeling annoyed about the whole thing, so I was sitting there pouting, and all of a sudden Nevo comes over to the sleeper, put his hand on my lap and places a chocolate candy on my lap. He simply smiled and it made me forget everything. You really don’t need a lot when you are in love. Haha, even though the space in the sleeper was very limited, it didn’t stop us from sharing it. It was a very fun ride!

We eventually woke up in Mumbai, and this is a sight that I will never forget as long as I live. I was leaning into Nevo and his arms were around me as usual, and we were both looking out the window and all of a sudden we started to pass hundreds of families living in cardboard boxes at the side of the bus station! The children were sitting in the dirt, mothers washed their clothes in small buckets. Fathers looked blankly into space or chatted with other locals. Cows roamed right next to these sites, munching on huge piles of garbage that surrounded the cardboard shelters. There were small fires along the way, and it was just really surreal. This was Mumbai…the business centre of India, the richest city in the country, the pride of the British rule. We soon found out that Mumbai had a different face, 20 minutes away from the poverty stricken area of the city, the Gateway to India, and other beautiful colonial structures dazzled the tourists!

We had a few hours to kill before heading to Goa, and so we decided to take a boat ride to Elephenta Island, the site of these ancient caves! After a beautiful ride and many gentle kisses in the breeze, we reached the quiet island. We found a nice spot in the forest, smoked and relished in the beautiful scenery around us. We liked it so much that we almost missed the last ferry back to the city…haha. We would have missed the our boat, if Nevo hadn’t checked his watch. We raced back to the boat, and even though we were able to go back to Mumbai, we missed out bus to Goa. We met an Israeli guy, who gave us his room, and we had an unwanted night in Mumbai. The next day, we left for Goa, and this time we didn’t miss the bus! Goa and Udaipur were definitely my favourite parts of the trip, but I will leave Goa’s story until another time.
