Salene/Bray:In The Dark:Location Unknown

Nov 07, 2003 06:42

Salene rolled over and cuddled up to the warm body next to her and smiled, it was so nice to be sleeping next to Pride, it always was. She sighed, content, and wondered why there was so much blanket between them, she wanted to feel his skin next to hers, it made her feel centered and whole to feel the warmth of his flesh. She took a deep breath and ( Read more... )

Salene leaned into Bray, silent sobs filling her being, she was so sad, she had let herself get all of her hopes up and for what? For a vent she could probably get her foot into if she was tall enough, her fist, but nothing more. This sucked, she felt so lost, lost for good to rot in this hole with her friend Bray, a person with a family, not like her, she kind of had Pride and Mouse, and everyone else, and they were her home, her heart, and now she was sure she'd never see them again. She felt comforted by Bray but then he suggested pushing the bed under the door, "It's just a mattress on the floor Bray, nothing else, it's not going to get us any closer to that door than the plywood or me standing on your shoulders doing russian gymnastics," she said in half sobs, feeling so stupid. She sniffled and wiped at her nose, "I'm never going to see Pride or Mouse again, we're going to be here forever, he's got us good, we're stuck here at his mercy, don't you see?" She heard him say not to give up but she couldn't help herself, she saw almost no other choice. Being locked up here in the dark and the cold, the wet and the must, with a captor who played mind games, in a room with nothing more than a bed and whatever he threw down to them, the two of them injured and helpless, without a clue as to what they were expected to do down here, she had no choice almost but to give up. As long as she was down here, she'd better make the best of it.

Salene wiped at her eyes and leaned away from Bray, pushing herself up, sniffling, walking across the room. Her foot kicked something as she went and she bent down, there was that awful bag of candles. She picked it up and held it as she walked across the room, finding the things he'd thrown down, gathering them up and jamming them back into the canvas bag. Once she'd counted everything she'd taken out earlier, she trekked back across the room, "Found the candles," she said in an eery level voice. "Brought the blankets and stuff over," she informed him. "Are you hungry then? I'm kind of feeling famished, we can have a bit of bread and a vegetable if you like, water too," she offered, plopping down on the mattress once she found it. At least she kind of had a better grasp of what was in the room and where she was in relation to some things, mapping it out in her mind.

Bray was at first worried, but then Salene was suddenly different, he didn't know what to do. He could hear her moving around in the dark gathering things he presumed. When she spoke it worried him more, she was talking as if she had no emotion, it wasn't healthy.

He answered, "Yeah I'm hungry, thirsty too," he tried to make his way over to where she was, but he went past the bed. He managed to turn around and make his way back, "What vegetables are there?"

Salene pulled things back out of the bag, "There are lots of apples, which are of course a fruit," she said, pretending to be in a joking mood, "There are cucumbers, a couple of tomoatoes, carrots, and then our bread," she said, reaching into the canvas and squeezing one of the loaves of bread to feel that it was relatively fresh. She felt that awful breeze, the coolness making her feel bitter. "We should probably push this bed across the room, it's colder down here, we'll be warmer in the night if we're over in the opposite corner," she rationalized, but not moving from the bed. "Where'd you go Bray?"

"I'm still here" he said back tracking. He nearly tripped over the mattress. "Err apple would be fine," he groped around in the dark until his hand met hers, then he took the apple and sat down at the opposite end of the bed and ate in silence as thoughts flew round his brain.

Salene handed bray and apple, but she'd already had that for breakfast...the last time she ate at the mall, and for the last meal they'd shared, so she pulled the heel off of one of the loaves of bread and pulled out a carrot, alternating between them. When she was done, she wiped her hands on her pants and pulled out a bottle of water, taking a draw from it, but not too much, and she let out a little burp. She covered her mouth but didn't bother to excuse herself, who care anymore. "Here," she said in the direction of Bray, holding the water out, "Have some water," she offered, "Drink as much as you like, you'll need it more than I do," she said, trying to sound reassuring and everything. She wasn't so sure about anything anymore, who knew what would happen to them next? They'd had a bit of fun exploring the room, mostly, and it had ended in her being a bit too over dramatic, but hey, it was better than sitting there trying to see each other in the dark. "Are you tired? Do you want to help me move the bed? It shouldn't be too hard to scoot over across the room," she reasoned, turning to look into the pitch blackness that was the direction Bray was in. She imagined being able to see him, which kind of amused her, she could "make out" the shape of his back, but she knew it wasn't real, she wouldn't be able to see in the dark like this, but it made her feel better anyhow.

"You said it's near the door," he said remember what she'd said. He hadn't paid attention at the time, but he did remember. "Yeah lets move it," he said, he bent down to pull it, but the effort hurt his side, he didn't show it, instead he said to Salene, "Shall we move it together?"

Salene stood up when he started tugging on it, "Wait let me get my butt off of it," she teased, standing and moving to stand above it, "Here come help me do it this way, we'll push it with our feet, we can steady each other that way and we won't have to bend over," she explained, waiting for him to come round before she put her foot against it, "Just give it a nice shove, like this," she showed him by moving it forward on her side a bit, waiting for him to reciprocate. "There see, easy," she had a slightly light tone to her voice, she'd convinced herself to make the best out of living in the dark like a grub, as long as they had food and something to talk about, they could make it, she was sure.

When they got the mattress across the room and opposite where she remembered the door, she moved round it to push it away from the wall a bit and then reached for the bag, "I'll put the bag of supplies above the head, this way we'll know where it always is," she informed him, tossing it up there and sitting down on the bed to settle in. She spread one blanket out on the outside of the bed and the other one along the otherside. "I'll take the inside," she informed him, pulling her shoes off and laying down on the side of the bed closest to the wall, her head on the pillow. She wasn't very cold but she'd wrapped up in the blanket anyway. "So what shall we do then? Any other ideas for me to shoot down and be negative about?"

Bray got on the bed, tentatively he put his hand out to give her some support. "Listen we're going to get out of this... we've just not found a way yet." He rolled over, she didn't seem to react, so he had no idea what she was thinking.

"I've been thinking," he said breaking the silence, "Is it possible that Ram's doing this somehow?"

Salene closed her eyes when he touched her gently, and she couldn't help herself, it just opened the flood gates again and the tears rolled down her face quietly. She was such a big blubbery baby, gah, she was being so moody, and she felt so irrational and stupid, too emotional. She sniffled and wiped her face off and rolled over when he rolled away, her pillow was wet now and she was trying to get away from the tears. What ended up happening was she rolled into Bray and was kind of spooning him from behind and though this felt incredibly awkward, which made her scoot backwards, it made her think of Pride and she felt the tears coming back again. She forced herself to get a grip on them and didn't let one slide, no, she was going to stick her chin out and have a tough upper lip about this damnit!

Salene was glad to get her mind off of things when Bray started talking to her, but he was asking about Ram and she frowned. "I don't think so, the person dropping off the supplies didn't act like any Techno and besides, Mega sent Ram off somewhere when we had the showdown, I don't know where he is, but he has been harrassing us via the computer. I doubt he'd go to this much trouble though, and whatever the agenda is that the man over the pit talked about earlier, it didn't sound very Technoish, you know? Didn't use their language," she reasoned, "But then I suppose anything is possible," she frowned, remembering what she thought it could be before, "It made me think of The Guardian," she said quietly, even just saying it put fear into her heart. "But he's long gone, Alice, she, there's just no way it's him," she was more trying to convince herself than convinced. "What if it is The Chosen though? Not The Guardian but some other crazy follower?" Salene hugged herself tightly, curling up into a ball kind of, comforting herself.

"The guardian, no he's dead he has to be," Bray said. For some reason just the memories of the guardian stirred up his feelings over Zoot, but that was in the past, that was all done with. No, Ram, or some other Techno had to be the cause behind this... or maybe a new Tribe. He didn't know.

Outwardly he said, "I doubt it, though I was unconscious when he was here." He felt a bit weird when she'd rolled over onto him, but then she's rolled away. Had she want something, it was hard down here, maybe she wanted reassurance, he held out his arm and let it lie on hers, hopefully that would make her feel a bit better rather than freak her out. "I think things will be okay."

Salene nodded to herself, "You're right, he's dead," she agreed and dropped it. "Well if it's not him, and I'm seriously doubting it's the Techno's but I won't drop the ball on that one because I know they're capable of this," she said, although she was sure they didn't care that much to try this hard, but then again if they wanted Ram back, maybe they did.

She felt his arm laying on hers and she was comforted, at least she wasn't going to be locked down here without human touch, at least she had a friend in Bray, someone she'd shared private moments with, and yeah that made things kind of weird for her, it also comforted her. She had trust in Bray, she knew he wouldn't hurt her and she knew she wasn't going to set herself up for heartache with him again, he was in love with Amber and she with Pride, so whatever happened down here would be completely platonic and out of their love as friends. "I hope so Bray, and not because you're an awful person or because I can't stand to be around you, but I just really want to be at home now, I want to see our family, I wanna hug my Mouse, and my Pride, and Amber, I almost can't bear another moment here," she said and her eyes teared up but she chewed on her lip to make it stop, swallowing down her grief and sadness.

"I wnat out to," he sighed, "I'm worried about Amber and Bray." Thinking about Amber and his son, he suddenly had the urge to stand up and scream, he couldn't take the idea he wasn't around when they needed him. He'd promised he wouldn't leave her. He found himself gripping her arm, he quickly let go and withdrew to his side of the bed. He then went on to lay a blanket beside the bed and laid on that, giving himself and Salene some room.

Salene felt badly, she was being so selfish, being a big blubbery mess over a man she wasn't married to and a child who was not hers in any way but in her heart, and Bray had a real family. Sure he and Amber weren't married, yet, but they had plans to be married, what did she have with Pride? Distance and when pressed he assured her everything was fine but if everything was fine then why did she feel as if he was a new stranger to her? Why did he still have secrets from her? Like she couldn't tell, she knew, she loved him too much to press it right now was all. That day he'd almost flown off of the roof, the look in his eyes, it had spooked her deep down inside, and though she had broken up with Pride and gotten back with him, he was still different, and she loved him, she just felt as if nothing was the same anymore. She tucked her hand up under her cheek, thinking about what to do, leave Bray alone or talk to him. She mulled it over and decided that Bray needed to rely on her for now, he had to or he was going to go crazy.

"You know Bray, it's ok to miss them, but don't blame yourself for it. We don't know why we're here yet, it's certainly not your fault no matter what. And Amber, she's strong Bray, she did alright when it was just her, she's got the Mallrats to watch after her and Bray, she can take very good care of herself and your baby, I promise," Salene scooted across the bed to reach out and touch his shoulder, giving it a reassuring rub. "If you want to talk about it, I'm here for you," she said quietly, even though it sounded cliche and redundant considering their situation.

Bray sat up, he was being stupid again. At least he thought he was, Salene had moved back close, he could feel the mattress next to him shift. "Listen," he said calming down, "I feel like I want to scream up and demand they let us out. Or I feel like taking my fists and hitting the walls until they give way. What happens if being with that mall rats isn't enough, they go you. What happens to my son? How would he survive without me or his mum? What if they take him, I already lost him for the first year of his life, I dont' want to lose him again."

The pressure was too much for Bray, the tears began to flow, he wanted to run, run away from from his pains like he always did, but he was here trapped and no where to run from his feelings.
