ramble ramble tired
i am supposed to be writing a paper about urban growth machines and underclass ideology and gentrification and neoliberalism and political economy blah blah blah. it's really interesting and exciting to learn about, but i hate writing about structural stuff like this because i can't organize ideas properly. aside from the paper, though, i love that because of this class i'm becoming able to read the city by looking at it. i rode the el the other day and it was like taking a trip through the fucking political economic web itself. ha cha cha. too bad the question now is how do i change my life based on this new consciousness. thus far the answer seems to be to treat others as i would like to be treated, and i like how radical and difficult that unassuming golden rule really is.
in other news, suddenly i have a lot more friends than i used to? whaaa? good thing this is mostly my roommates' doing and not mine or i would have a personality breakdown. we have a potluck every tuesday and tonight the theme was "phallic." lots of baguettes and nuts, as well as ball-shaped fruits. after dinner i unfortunately got hit really hard in the crotch with a poorly aimed koosh ball. yes, koosh balls still exist. i was surprised too.
plans for the weekend include: i think i am going to iowa city for clurr's birthday party yay! i miss ames friendz and this is a good weekend for me to be gone as midterms will be over by friday. also, on sunday i'm going to go hear barack obama speak (he's going to declare his candidacy on saturday) and maybe help staff the event if shady friend connections work out, so perhaps i can even shake some genuine obama hand. delicious.
this constant zero degree weather is really depleting my energy, i feel almost like i have mono, but hopefully it'll be over soon. the other afternoon we drove to a shop 'n save (cheap immigrant supermarket in niles) to buy groceries and i felt like such a regular person--driving to the grocery store on a frigid winter afternoon. life life life. what is even going on.
