howdy howdy howdy all, from a dude who hid from lj for a while.
i believe the last entry had me "quitting smoking." well. totally and predictably dropped the ball on that one. the euphoria i felt about quitting soon melted into an antsy itchy feeling and i finally broke down and resumed smoking. ah well. until next time ...
been feeling pretty good lately ... after about a month of periodic substance abuse, i got my shit together and drove down to winston-salem to audition for the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival and totally got the part. I'll be doing an outreach program called GlobeWorks, traveling around introducing high school and middle school students to the bard. There's 3 people in the troupe, and one of them is a good buddy of mine from high school, Chris Dwyer! ROCK!! They'll pay for HOUSING and HOTEL ROOMS (rock!) and the pay is 350 a week from Jan 3rd to April 15th (rock rock!) That's awesome for many reasons, such as the fact that its more money than i've ever made consistently at any one job in my life, and its for doing something CREATIVE. shakespeare, motherfucker.
i rock at shakespeare. i understand the text and i understand how to convey the meaning and emotion to people without sounding shakespearian a la olivier. I come from the Branaugh(-watching) school of Shakespeare; i.e. instead of making shakespeare sound wooden and big and frilly, why not make it sound natural? the poetry will take care of itself.
Boom Comix #2 has made its debut -- it looks a lot better than the first issue -- more aesthetically unified, legible, more coherent. Boom#3 is in the works -- we've decided on the dual themes of christmas and war, stemming from an idea i've had for a while called "Christmas in Stalingrad" .. it will prove to be a great issue. i'm terribly excited about it. They're available for 3 dollars a pop, so order yers today.
and the election. as i write this, its up in the air. the polls havent closed yet. the potential is still there. the debates turned me from anti-bush to pro-kerry. i think he'll make a great president.
democrats around east tennessee have had problems with people stealing their kerry-edwards signs, so last night in the wee hours of the morning, a small group of covert operatives loosely affiliated with the washington county democratic committee (myself included) snuck out in the wee hours in the morning and plastered the town with a thousand kerry-edwards signs. That's right. 1000. At once. It looks beautiful.
Fuckers better get used to it.
Its cosmic. i'm really confident. The Fucking Boston Red Sox won the world series at Busch stadium. It's in the stars.
So I can dream for now, and we'll see if my dreams are crushed tonight.
