Reading too many a post by the Guns'n'Handcuffs people had got me thinking: Were the so-called H/D subtext (otherwisely known as text that can easily be taken out of context) purely unintentional ( Read more... )

I think we luck out in that JKR isn't really thinking about it. That is, she's luckily not so aware of slashy readings that she's going to second guess herself on what she wants to say because it sounds slashy ( ... )

Wow. I am totally agreeing with a comment that struck down all three of my conspiracy theories X-D!!! I guess I was more thinking along the line of "if it's painfully obvious to me, then certainly it was painfully obvious to her as well!"

That is, she's luckily not so aware of slashy readings that she's going to second guess herself on what she wants to say because it sounds slashy.

That is very likely! Though this brings up a new thought: Would Harry's stalker behaviors have appeared to Rowling to have a romantic undertone, if Harry were female? In other words, were what Rowling was doing through Harry, regardless of this character's gender, somewhat romantic?

There was one thing I forgot to include: Harry's feeling a sence of *power* when he thought he'd be able to break into ROR, when he thought Malfoy must've frozen terrified on the other side of the wall. It was just... I can't be the only pervert who sensed a sexual implication (maybe unintional) there.

I can't think of any other time Harry has literally set out to watch ( ... )

I think if Harry was a girl and Draco a boy, or vice versa, the books'd probably be heading for H/D. Sure, they'd pretend not to like each other, but we know what women are like, don't we? *rolls eyes*
But of course, Rowling's "magic" touch when it comes to heterosexual relationships means H/D would probably come out more like H/G or James/Lily. The horror!

Oh yeah, the good women such as Lily could totally tell apart reformable bad boys from those who'll remain jerks for life. So unless you are Lily, DO NOT GO FOR THE BAD BOYS!!!

Yup. Should keep Rowling's magic touch well away from H/D :-P Though I've gotta say since Harry is clearly no Saint Lily, even if he or Draco were a girl the pair's dynamics would've been different (ie better) than that of James/Lily. And I don't believe it an easy task for any ship to sink to H/G's level, oh the horror indeed X-D

I think any male/female relationship as written by JKR is gonna be bad, no matter what the dynamics. I mean, just from what we know of Harry and Ginny on paper, most people in fandom could probably come up with a, dare I say it, better way of portraying them as a couple, and Ginny as a character; but then they wouldn't necessarily have the same objective that JKR has in writing a relationship. Which is namely Sassy Girl Puts Up a Fight, Wins Boy's Heart, Has Babies, Dies, while the guys are out being heroic/having adventures. I mean, for all the Ginny/Lily Sue, it's James that leaves behind his cool toys, his friends, his memory at the school, his Quidditch skills, his looks. Lily...um...had green eyes ( ... )

And no friends, and no one talking about exactly what she did until Slughorn came along- honestly, it makes no sense what-so-ever that Harry never asked more questions about her. Actually Harry's being strangely passive about finding out more about his parents is one thing I think is so bizarre about this series.

But oddily I don't find Rowling's bad writing of het romance and women in general too huge a bother, I could remember few well-written female characters in other fictions revolving around a male hero anyway. I just think of this as one of the things Rowling is just bad at, like action scenes and math *shrugs*

Ultimately, I don't think Harry's assier actions will ever be confronted.Assier... *LOL ( ... )

Well, of course, her only friends must have been men. Because we all know what females are like. Bunch of superficial gigglers. Lily would NEVER have done such a thing!

it makes no sense what-so-ever that Harry never asked more questions about her.

I'm sure he will when it benefits him. Or when the plot requires it. *rolls eyes*

I wouldn't mind if people didn't try to convince me it's feminist of her, or that she obviously seems to be trying for equality herself (the Ginny dumping Dean for helping her through doors, for example, was so obviously 'OMG LOOK AT GINNY'S GIRL POWER'.) and failing, and not realising it.
I hope she leaves my Slytherin girls alone, though!

Well that's why the face-stomping scene was so great, for it's probably the one and only that we'll get in regards to confronting his cockiness :PYeah, I love how he's all 'I hope everyone will think I got this Battling Evil'. And how he wants to fight Malfoy 'one on ( ... )

Oh that was one of my favorite Harry inner dialogue in the book! Loved how he thought 'it was an indication of their frienship that Ron didn't laugh about the face-stomping' too. I think people waiting for Draco to get his "comeupance" for it should just give up, because to me it's fairly obvious while Draco will be paying for his other mistakes in HBP, the face-stomping would not be one of them. I shall do a mini post on that, actually.

Wasn't that Harry getting his comeuppance for the GoF/OotP hexing/Quidditch fight, anyway?
OH NOES, HARRY SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO FACE RESPONSIBILITY OR CONSEQUENCES FOR ANYTHING!11 *weeps the retarded tears of harry fandom*
