It's all about the hair

I'm working on a new experiment: no-poo.

It means using no shampoo. The idea behind it is that shampoo removes the natural oils produced by the scalp-causing the scalp to produce more oil to compensate. Regular shampooing causes a "vicious cycle" as it becomes necessary to shampoo regularly to compensate for the excess oils (that were stripped by shampooing).

The trick is to wash it thoroughly with water and to brush well to distribute the natural oils (a real hair brush is preferred). Apparently it usually takes about 6 weeks before your hair (or actually head) has found a new balance.

I didn't wash my hair every day to begin with. Years ago I washed about every other day. Last few years I reduced it to about once every 4 days. At first my hair was greasy on the third day, later it started to get greasy on the fourth or fifth day.

I started this no poo thing 13 days ago. I did cheat because J and I went swimming on day 10 and I wanted to rinse out the swimming water. I did use J's Weleda shampoo (it has only natural ingredients). Not that it actually helped a lot. My hair is very greasy at the moment. When I go with my fingers through my hair, my hands end up being greasy, my brush needs a bath after each brushing.

No idea if I will keep up the full 6 weeks, or cheat sooner (washing only once a week would already better). I think my hair is dirty now. Although the bf says it doesn't look nor feel like it needs a washing.

EDIT: a day later: apparently I complained to early. My hair is now not that greasy anymore. Mostly the deeper layers still are. I don't reach those that easily with the brush, so I need to try that more.
