"Rowena, we need something to categorise these children. We won't live forever." Godric Gryffindor sighed and leaned back in his chair.
"Can't we enchant something? Something to sort them into houses which represent our best qualities?"
"It must be something neutral, love, something which will favor no particular house. Merlin knows Salazar would love to enchant something wicked to keep the 'impure' from his house."
"What if we four enchant something? The object could choose. Or the child could choose." Rowena shrugged her shoulders.
"No, that will never do. It should be mundane." Godric looked about the room. "Like this old hat."
"Ah. Indeed."
