On my way to the dentist today, when I stumbled across an ex. Drunk, or on good way to become drunk anyway. After shuffling his feet for ten seconds when he thought I wasn't looking, he came over to give me a big hug, and he started talking. (You good people don't know this guy - when he starts talking after a few beers, he doesn't shut up. Like, ever. You have to gag the man to get a word in, and he's so charming and well-meaning and nervous you'll only end up feeling guilty if you do.) I made it clear that I had to leave though, and he went back into the pub looking so *lost*...can't get rid of those eyes...and he muttered "Well, you do what you want, of course."
Now, what the hell is that supposed to mean? Didn't really strike me until later. If he'd wanted me to join him for a beer, why didn't he just say so? Hints are wasted on me, I'm about as subtle as a rhino.
