this morning i had my interview at rmit school of art. i was very scared and had about thirty kilograms worth of examples of work. struggled down the street doing a kind of shuffle-rearrange-organization-of-burdens-shuffle. sitting in the corridor waiting i think i must have been the youngest there. everybody had a lot more canvases than i did (i only brought a small one, which was this:
teacher, oil, house, industrial paint, collage on canvas) and wore bettina liano jeans that were unattractively and expensively tight over their behinds. and too much jewellery. except for the men who had gone in for the ironically-and-thus-trendy geeky hobo look.
so they came out and said "rachel?" and at that exact moment i was bending over looking in my bag for my phone, so they just saw this bush of mod hair and heard my yelp of "yeh? er, yes, i'm here!" so we climbed up two flights of stairs; the female interviewer took my visual diaries and the older male one took my canvas, so i didn't look too much of a struggling weakling prat. i was very nervous but they said i was fine, and said i spoke well. AND the older lecturer guy said my art was "unlike anything i've seen in years". also i would be among the youngest, but they thought i would do very well in "any art school". i was so gratified and relieved i jumped a little and thanked them for being so nice to me.
YES! three times yes and a hah! of course, rmit is not the university i want. however, knowing i did well is very, very encouraging. :D
