something's different in the world today

Important business first!
OTF! I've hunted down a list of pancakes/crepes cafes -sadly, there aren't many- and here they are!

Fosters: an english rose cafe
Where: Holland V
Operating Hours: Sundays to Thursdays: 11 am to 11 pm;
Fridays and Saturdays: open till 1 am
Pricing: Devonshire Cream Tea Set at just $9.00+++
Of deserving mention are their oven-hot scones served with butter, homemade strawberry preserve, cream, banana walnut cake and finger sandwiches which make up their luxurious Devonshire Cream Tea Set at just $9.00+++ with a cup of coffee or tea.

Also on the menu are pancakes the way mum does it with lemon and sugar, steak and mushroom pies, bubble and squeak (vegetables and mashed potatoes patties) which are a great complement for an afternoon cup of tea.

Crepe House
Where: Seiyu Dept. Store, Bugis Junction (don't think that there's seating space)
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday, 10.00am to 10.00pm
Pricing: $1.80 to $4.50 per serving
The meal menu includes tuna, chicken, ham, beef, pizza, etc. For instance, the meal-in-itself Samurai crepe consists of hefty pieces of chicken, meaty ham slices, plus fresh greens like lettuce, carrots, french beans, cucumber, celery with (or without) a dollup of mayonnaise. Ice cream crepes can be served topped with vanilla, chocolate or raspberry ripple ice cream. Dessert crepes are served with fillings like tiramisu, pudding, or honey lemon. Of course, true crepe freaks can always try them all.

The Batter Place
Where: GOLDHILL CENTRE, Novena, i.e. NEXT TO OUR WORKPLACE (an extremely exciting discovery!!)
Serves: CLICKmenuCLICK
Pricing: Don't know, but looks affordable and _incredibly_ yummy :D

Crêperie AR-MEN
Where: Duxton Road
Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday, closed on Sundays
Lunch Hours: 11.30 am to 2.30 pm (last order, 2pm )
Dinner Hours: 6.30pm to 11pm (last order 10.30pm )
Pricing: Don't know, but looks incredibly high end.
At Crêperie AR-MEN, everything is authentic. To start with, the cast iron griddles on which the crepes are cooked have been imported from France . Then most of the products, used at the restaurant, are exclusively imported from farms and small producers in Brittany . The Crêperie makes a point of supporting small authentic production houses of traditional items such as cider, beer, cheeses and liquors. The manager of Crêperie
AR-MEN has personally visited these farms and selected the products he imports.

In addition to crepes and galettes, the menu also offers a selection of true French dishes. You can start your meal with a home-made soup or a fresh salad or a platter of fresh Cancale oysters, flown in from Brittany twice a week. For main course, Che f Gerardine prepares a few traditional French items each day. This selection changes regularly and you can check the daily specials on the black board when you visit the restaurant.

Okay place your votes a53! Most probably going to be a breafast/brunch gathering on a weekend. Also state your preference for Saturday or Sunday please (:

There was no work yesterday, so I painted to celebrate.

(My scanner isn't large enough, hence the Gil (my X800) photo and wonky colour balance.)

From a lovely pictorial -Faces of Tibet-; the original picture had two other siblings in it, with her in the middle, carrying one brother on her back. It was supposed to be a speedpainting-ala-Delian painting but alas! Speed and Art never did mix well when applied to me so it took about 3 sittings. Anyway, I am very excited to be painting again after so many weeks of procrastination and laziness (how does one distinguish between the two?). Also, as my last painting attempt turned out rather sorry (sorry Blaire!), I am quited pleased with how she turned out (:

(Because I've been such a sloth about updating, this entry is going to be enormously long and back-dated -- not chronological though.)

At a lovely-cafe-which-name-I-have-already-forgotten:

Isn't this just simply gorgeous??

His name is Rama.

TQ: Hey, I forgot to tell you why the females are called King Scallops too. That's because 'King Scallop' is the name of the species -because it is the biggest of its kind- and so the female equivalents are called female King Scallops and not Queen Scallops or whatever.
Hwee: But why must it be King leh? Why cannot Queen?? Why must we give them male terms? It's so demeaning!
TQ: Because everyone says 'King' when they mean the biggest! Have you heard of 'Queen of the Jungle'?
Hwee: Got!
TQ: Who?
Hwee: Jane loh!

I am woman, hear me...look-elsewhere-while-my-picture-is-taken.

Family prettiness:

Hello Kitty's my cousin!

Lead actress of "How to Roar 101".

The Sweetest Little Girl, fending off the paparazzi.

Sometimes I wish my extended family was more international, so we could have a convenient excuse to travel abroad more often, but if that were so, I wouldn't be able to watch these pumpkins grow so orange and bright and lovely.

Foodthings:

New double chocolate Hello Panda!! :D

The Prettiest Dessert Ever. Or at least, the prettiest tang yuan I've ever had! It just about single-handedly saved our reunion dinner from being Amazingly Bland And Almost Nasty. Pretty pink peanut tang yuan in sesame paste! It was _so_ good okay :D And watch how it glows! It can officially join the Glowing Food club, which previously was a one-member show (read: Bishan Chicken Rice).

A foodile (food+smile) from my Ah Ma's birthday! Haven't made one of these for a long time now.

Latest Amazon find. Isn't it disgusting? I need one!

Mailtime!:

Nothing ruins the exhilaration one experiences when finding a letter (a huge one like this, especially) addressed to oneself more than having the said letter being delievered in this:

Growl!

I've read and reread the plastic wrapper and nowhere does SingPost declare its deepest and most sincere apology for having ruined my letter! Also, the envelope was opened before, because the sealing tape isn't sticky anymore. Isn't going through another's mail a federal offence? I think SingPost has the right to open suspicious post, but how can an ordinary large brown envelope with "Fragile! Please do not bend Mr Postman!" on it be suspicious looking?? This isn't the first time SingPost has screwed up Blaire's mail -- I have yet to receive that Ang Pao she sent almost a week ago. Hello! We only want to be penpals! Why dost thou contradict us so?

Anyways! I've received your letter Blaire! Don't be alarmed by the 'damaged' message -- your letter is still in one piece, albeit somewhat crumpled. Yay photobooths :D (Btw, there's one in the Cold Storage at Novena, I'm going to see if there are more at other Cold Storage-s)

Four Flashes and Five Minutes

Lastly, what's a long update without a little dose of nostalgia?

Day old duck rice, taken the morning after our first stayover at the Art Room.
