preetha_thinks invited me to a techno-geek screening of the new James Bond movie at the
Alamo Drafthouse, and I gladly accepted;
_MWife_ wrangled the kids by herself for the evening.
While the aesthetics are as impressive as always, the stakkato cutting techniques of Tsui Hark have now taken over the Bond genre as well, leaving me baffled at times as to who just punched or shot whom. The gadgets have given way to more elaborate chase and fight sequences; as the New York Times
review so cleverly pointed out, in a time where an iPhone is cooler than anything Bond had in the last 22 films, the producer have basically given up and treat technology as a given. The scenery remains exotic and colorful; but the babes have been reduced to a side-issue--since when did Bond get by on sleeping just once, with just one girl?
Still, good fun was had by all, even if the raw speed of some of the scenes made me feel very dated indeed.
