I've decided, that I need to blog more, and that I need to blog better. I've considered getting a new blog, but it seems like all together too much effort, so I'll just work harder on this one. Interesting things happen in my life, particularly in regards to practicum, street ministry and church, and I spend all together too much time talking about my grocery shopping and whining about homework.
Street Ministry tonight was good. I think we're finally hitting our rhythm as a team, and it feels really good. I had a really good conversation with one of our regulars. We often talk, but tonight he was quite down and out. We had a youth group in, so it was nice to be able to just sit and talk to him and not have to worry about the kitchen getting cleaned and the floors being washed. The streets themselves were quite quiet.
One of the youth said something that really struck me tonight when we did highs and lows in debriefing. Her high of the night was the learning experience she had but her low of the night was that it was at the expense of those we serve. It really got me thinking, and I'm glad she brought it up. I love street ministry. It's totally awesome. But really, when it comes down to it, I wish I didn't have to do it. They say that as social workers we should be trying to work ourselves out of a job, and I really believe that.
