Gotta get out of this place...

A slat in the iron door right at eye level slid open.

"Name and numbah, if you plaaaaaise."

"11257804."

There was a rustle and a cough and then the silence began to stretch.

"Darby", she rolled her eyes at the heavy door. "Darlene fucking Elizabeth Staton Lowery," she smirked. "Are you happy already? Will you let me in now?"

There was a moment's hesitation, then the door slid slowly open and Darby took no time bridging the gap. "A retinal scan would be nice," she muttered. "Your speakeasy antics make me feel like a criminal."

The doorman chuckled causing ashes to tumble from the end of the hand rolled cigarette stuck to his bottom lip. "You feel like a criminal, eh? Why doncha le' me be the judge o' that," he made a groping motion toward her breasts and Darby jabbed the knuckle of her middle finger into his gut.

"Fuck off, Earwig. You take this "doorman" shit way too seriously. Name and number?! Give me a break."

"Aww, Darbs... C'mon! I'm jus' havin' some fun."

"Yeah, well. Just because I AM a criminal doesn't mean you have to treat me like one."

"Yeah, yeah...."

She stepped into a long corridor ignoring his last and strode purposely toward a door at its end. Once she reached it she stood looking at it, frowning. It looked exactly like the door she'd just come through, and as she stood there chewing the inside of her cheek a slat in the door right at eye level slid open.

"Name and numbah, if you plaaaaaise." It was Earwig's voice again, but he couldn't be in two places at once.

Darby dropped to a crouch and unsheathed the knife strapped to her boot, her eyes darting in all directions, her mind fumbling frantically backward, retracing the steps that had led her into this snare. At what point had she stepped into it? And better yet, whose trap was it? There were any number of people who could benefit from her being waylaid... She began to creep slowly back the way she'd come, her eyes scanning the corridor looking for any sort of snag in the tapestry of her current 'reality'... Looking for a way out.
