At the age of twenty-seven, Doris decided it was no longer necessary for her to work and was certain that she would be financially provided for. Within a period of a few months, Doris began to develop fanatical religious ideas. She believed that it was her responsibility to do penance for the sings of the world and would not eat unless God personally instructed her to do so. B the time she was admitted to a state psychiatric clinic for treatment, she was emaciated in appearance and her speech was nonsensical.
