There are many good reasons why someone might not want to go under their "real name" on the Internet, from the trivial, wanting a cool handle, to the massively important, victims of domestic violence not wanting to be tracked down by former abusers, people in witness protection programmes, political activists in repressive states who risk death if their real identity is discovered.
On top of which, under the ancient Common Law of this country, on which all our statute laws are based and on which the law as a whole still rests, we all have the right to use any name we choose, and to change our names at will, provided we do not do so for fradulent reasons.
So it's time to stand up to the tyrany of Facebook and Google.
