My computer has been resurrected from the dead yet again.
On Monday, I turned it on to do the usual web surfing. I had set it down next to me while I waited for it to boot up, but when I looked over, it had gone back to sleep. Confused, I tried to turn it on again. It seemed to boot up okay, but after only a minute or two of being on, it would go back to sleep. I handed it over to
swietowid who turned it on again, and when it booted up, handed it back to me as if nothing was wrong.
As soon as I touched it, it turned off again. (Note: This is the second time we've had power issues with this stupid laptop)
The next day, before he went to work,
swietowid checked online to see if he could figure out what was wrong. After a bit of searching, he uncovered a class action lawsuit that was leveled against Dell about my brand of computers. According to the summary, basically, the first two generations of motherboards for the Inspirion 5150 were crap, and Dell was forced by this lawsuit to replace any and all motherboards that had one of several issues.
Thankfully, one of those issues was the stupid thing turning off for no reason.
So, we went online to chat with a dell representative, who in the space of about thirty minutes determined that the motherboard was shot and agreed to send us a new one.
The new motherboard arrived yesterday, and we installed it with only a few hiccups.
And now my computer works again!!
So, my fiance is made of win.
