It's something we've all heard before-"balance".
Balance equations, checkbooks, accounts, weight, drinks-your life. Everything needs balance.
But they never tell you what that balance is. What is this sacred "balance" all those old proverbs and advice uphold as a virtue? Take drinking. Some would say the blance should be one glass. Others say none. And some of the beer junkies may say up to the point of drunkenness. None can qualify a "balance" claim except for themselves.
Which then leads to the question, are some people even qualified to make decisions on a simple matter like this? Denial, addiction or sheer stupidity, it seems utterly useless to urge a unqualified individual to qualify and follow any rules of their own making. And usually they end up in rather nasty situations because of this initial problem.
It would probably be easier if we told those individuals what they should do, rather than suggest they find a "balance". But then we'd open a whole 'nother can of worms about individual freedom and what constitutes a unqualified individual.
Ah, philosophical wrangling at it's finest.
