Today's rain is the first rain in this humid, South East-Asian weather. To celebrate the blessing, here is one my favorite rain-themed poems, written by Sapardi Djoko Damono, a living legend and one of the best Indonesian poets if not the best himself.
I Stopped the Rain
(Sapardi Djoko Damono, transl. by John H McGlynn)
I stopped the rain. Now the sun
in longing for me, slowly lifts the morning mist -
something beats
inside myself:
piercing the wet earth;
a longing made pregnant by rain
and sunlight
I could not stop the sun
from forcing me to create flowers.
Kuhentikan Hujan
Kuhentikan hujan. Kini matahari
merindukanku, mengangkat kabut pagi perlahan -
ada yang berdenyut
dalam diriku:
menembus tanah basah,
dendam yang dihamilkan hujan
dan cahaya matahari
Tak bisa kutolak matahari
memaksaku menciptakan bunga-bunga.
