Hikaru Tsukita – 5:00 pm _pocky_addict_ July 10 2009, 06:35:24 UTC
Fukuyo passed another music store as she walked down the street by Tsukita Hikaru’s apartment. It was a little run down but from the music and dance places it looked to be very cultured. Reaching dusk Fukuyo smiled at the sights until she found the building Hikaru lived in and knocked.

Hikaru had just come out of the shower, having been at work until four, and so she was wearing her indoor pjs with cute fluffy slippers, an oversized t-shirt and loose pants that had pictures of teddy bears on it. She smiled at the teachers as she opened the door.

"Sensei, please come in. I'm afraid that Daddy had to go away on business, so he isn't able to be here. He just started at his new job, so they wouldn't allow him to miss this trip." Hikaru said, moving aside to let the teachers in.

Gendo followed his colleague inside, those his mind was elsewhere. He was thinking back to Hikaru's file. He could have sworn that her mother had been listed as deceased. If her father was away, that would make this parent-teacher conference without point. "Oh a new job? Who acts as guardian while he is away?" He asked, his eyes surveying the room.

Although the tiny apartment was spotlessly clean, it was obvious that the furniture had seen better days. Like most lower-income apartments in Tokyo, the amount of space was limited, but there was a small four-seat dining table off the small kitchen and a battered living area. There was also a small table set up for Hikaru's sewing projects and a portable dance bar was set up along one of the walls ( ... )

Gendo bit his lip. A lot of the students that had visited in the past few days had been struggling. At least Hikaru seemed to be one of the few that came out on top of the situation.

"I didn't mean that you aren't responsible enough to hold your own while your father is away, Tsukita-san. I meant that this meeting was scheduled as a parent-teacher conference. If your father couldn't be here, the conference should have been rescheduled. If we were interested in a student-teacher conference, I could have just called you to my office during school."

He looked towards Fukuyo. "I guess we'll have time to catch dinner before the next meeting." Turning back towards Hikaru, "The school will be in contact for us to reschedule at a time that works for your father. Meanwhile, Tsukita-san, I would encourage you to come see me anytime during the school year. Working to pay bills at your age is stressful, on top of school work. I think you'd be able to find some relief if you came to talk."

"I'm sorry that Daddy couldn't be here, sensei...He must have forgotten to reschedule before he left." Hikaru sighed, making it clear that her father's forgetfulness was a common problem. "I'll remind him when he comes home."

She considered the offer to see the teacher in school, but shook her head. "I don't have much time...I also have dance lessons and I teach the younger children at the dance studio to pay for my lessons. Since auditions for the Romeo and Juliet ballet are coming up, I'm not sure when I could come in to talk, sensei. I have to work hard if I'm going to get the role of Juliet....and that could be the step I need to become the prima ballerina. The current prima is retiring soon, so it's the perfect opportunity to try...and I'd get paid significantly more as a prima than a backup dancer."

She gave Gendo a serene smile. "Dance is a very effective stress reliever."

"Dance can be a stress reliever. But when you're pushing yourself to be the dancer you want to be, it can have quite the opposite effect." Gendo began heading back towards the door. "'I think I'm maintaining the quality, but internally I'm paying for it.' Gary Larson. If you find yourself in need, you know where to find me, and I'm sure you'd be able to make time for it."

Hikaru decided it was not worth trying to argue. She was busy with dance, work and school. She didn't want to worry about squeezing in time to talk to a teacher she didn't actually know very well. Besides that, she was uncomfortable around grown men and figured she'd probably try talking to the school nurse if she wanted adult advice.

"I will keep what you said in mind, Sensei." She said simply, thinking it was easier to just pretend she was agreeing.

Gendo normally did get several students to visit him throughout the week, usually during the school day. He didn't pretend to be school psychiatrist, but he did fully believe that too many kids kept things bottled up and needed someone to talk to. He frowned at her, her readily agreeableness suggesting several scenarios. He made the offer though, which was all he was limited to do.

"Take care, Tsukita-san," he said, as he headed back out the door they had just only come in.

"Yes Tsukita-san take care and my clinic is open as well I might not be trained like Shindo but I am a great hug giver." Fukuyo chimed.

Hikaru gave the nurse a shy smile. "I might take you up on that offer later...after auditions are finished." She said, a light blush touching her cheeks. Hugs that weren't from her drunk and sobbing father were rare, particularly from women since she didn't have a mother.
