I didn't make you do anything, you only have yourself to blame for being so indecisive! *blows raspberry* I can honestly say i have either never seen any of your films, or i hate them (Stars wars! but they made us watch it at school for a little stint of films studies and i hated school so it could just be negative memories from that time). But at least they're not as bad as _stevie_jay_ braveheart i mean that sucked so much, his accent alone made me laugh!

some do seem very interesting though and i may have to look into them. I must admit that i hated choosing 5 too, there were a few other films i would have liked to have chosen as well, not for shaping me, but just that i like to watch over and over.

there is a film called warriors - it was very hard to get a hold of, its a british film about UN peacekeepers in Bosnia (to explain - peacekeepers weren't allowed to defend people, they only had to make sure aid got through, so basically if they seen someone getting tortured they were forbidden to help and im sure you've heard about soldiers committing suicide since returning) it just reminds me that there is more to evil than the bullshit 'war on terror' and everyone needs to remember that.

And another is Canadian Bacon, have you seen it? It is soooo fucking funny, but the fact is that it does happen in a less funny way, the US govt need an enemy and thus create it (may i introduce you to my inner politics student?) i think the film shows them that not everyone falls for their crap.

Also, Beautiful Thing, another british film, about two gay teens living in working class london. Fantastic film, the boys are fantastic and pop up in stuff here all the time. Anyway i like it cuz its a bit different. Also have thought to myself, is this perhaps where Russell T Davies got his inspiration to do QAF? there are just some similarities.

And of course, my Magnum PI boxset.

Yeah. Actually, I hated "Braveheart." Not only was his accent terrible, but, omg! it was stupid movie.

"Star Wars." Hm. My affinity with "Star Wars" is really hard to describe. But, when I was younger, I wasn't really allowed to watch TV. So, I used to go to the library and rent movies all the time. "Star Wars" was like the only thing they had there. That, and "National Velvet" (hee hee. A young Elizabeth Taylor + horses= a little girl's dream come true). So, I was forced to watch "Star Wars" and it grew on me. Not that I think they're particularily *good*. I just have great memories of "Star Wars."

"Beautiful Thing"!!! I LOVE "Beautiful Thing." It's actually one of my favorite films, but, I chose "Aimee and Jaguar" instead. My friend and I watched the *peppermint* scene like twenty times. And their hot kissing scene in the park--so cute. I own it both on VHS *and* DVD. Cuz I'm a fool.

How sad that you haven't seen "Dark Crystal." It's really fucked up. And it's by the people who do The Muppets! You can't go wrong!

Have you seen the Irish film "Priest"? Oh man. That's an incredible film. It's a nice critique on the Catholic Church and the boundaries they set up for priests to follow. It's a very compassionate film towards homosexuality without being overtly sappy.

I haven't seen "Canadian Bacon" in a really long time. I remember thinking it was funny...

see...i have inner catholic issues, i hate when people say anything bad about practices in the church. i hate the rules of the church, and i pretty much think the practices are wrong, but i tend to argue with the TV when people say things about it. I wish i wasn't like that, and i try not to be, as i know that my church and particularly the christian church as a whole, causes most if not all the world's problems. My philosophy lecturer was a catholic, he's athiest now, but when we were studying the politics of the catholic church whenever he said something bad about the church he would cringe a little and say 'once a catholic always a catholic' and that totally sums me up. So i wouldn't watch that film i dont think!

Ethan is supposed to be in canadian bacon! I haven't watched it to check but he's in there somewhere. my inner politics student loooooooooves canadian bacon. (have you noticed i have a lot of 'inner' personalities!?).

As for braveheart, we were all so excited, a Mel Gibson film being shot HERE! In scotland! about scotland! then it was like....hang on....an australian is playing our most treasured historical figure? then when we got wind of the storylines we were like, ummm....that didn't happen to william wallace....then when we seen it! um....WTF?! Most people did like it, but purely for the fact that most people now ignore the struggle of the scots back then. We're still under english control so it was like, finally the world will see why it happened! But no, it was about sex and love and Mel Gibson.

Which actually reminds me of another of his films - The Passion, OMG that film was amazing, only been able to watch it once though. The guy that was Jesus should be up for an oscar for that! In fact our priest saw him last time he was at that place in Bosnia i told you about, he was at mass! I would have been like - can i have your autograph Mr Jesus Sir?

Star wars, i can see why you would like it, especially if it was one of the few things that you could watch! i see its attraction, i just don't like it, i don't really like sci-fi type things anyway.

My fave thing about Beautiful Thing is....fuck....can't remember her name, the girl! His hag! She is so fab, and his mum - the original debbie. Bit of a cheesy ending though. Might watch it 2moro while i "study".

Bit of a cheesy ending though.

Aw, I thought the ending was perfect. With them dancing together. In the open. Unafraid. :sighs:

Hmm. The whole thing about the movie "Priest." It's about reform. And what's right. And Father Greg, the main priest, is very pro-Catholicism. It's not anti-Catholicism at all. It talks about the good and the bad. And it's very compassionate. Give it a try. Although, it made me very nervous and had me pacing the room. That was a good way to watch it, pacing. I highly recommend that.
