I'd watch both of them! The first one definitely sounds more original and you could do some really cool things with it. I'd make each season have a theme and have the tasks revolve around the theme. Like the first could be Hunger/Poverty, the next could be Environmental, the next World Peace, etc. Each episode could revolve around tasks relating to them with the early ones more focused on research and smaller things leading up to big things in the finales. I love the demi-god/competition idea and the C plot as well. I'd sell it as some kind of Heroes meets something, IDK.
I like the second idea as well mostly because I love the LA thing and people can definitely relate (IN THESE TIMES *rolls eyes*). I think it just needs more of a plot, more of a what happens next angle and a better way to connect the characters. Reminds me of Party Down a lot actually but more broad for jobs. My only idea is maybe the girl's family is in the movie/music business and she's not sure if others are using her, idk need something else.
omg thank you so much for all the suggestions! i actually really like the idea of modelling seasons after big issues -- i was originally going to model them after greek myths, but your suggestion will ground a story that otherwise is difficult to relate to. i mean, i really want to do this idea, but it's something i think would be better written by someone else, because i don't have the balls to pull off something so complex. i just think it'd be cool to do a kind of fantasy/sci-fi ensemble drama, especially now that heroes is off the air.
right, that's how i came up with the idea. all these teen ensemble shows (gossip girl, 90210, the hills, jersey shore, etc.) all revolve around privileged people being prissy all day, so it'd be kind of interesting to do something in that genre that follows people who don't get everything they want. but like you said, this idea doesn't really have a plot yet -- it's a show that will really revolve around the characters, so hopefully once i develop them some kind of story arc will emerge.

Oh man, I wish I was a writer *sigh*
