Ok, so I was having an actually great monday. but all mondays must suck a little, so fate(or mbvw, im still trying to decide) dealt me a litle dose of reality. I was heading through ormond, turning from calle grande to ridgewood and midturn i hear the most horrible noise i ever want to hear again from my car. i managed to pull off tot he side and get out of traffic, which is a good thing. when i got out it looked like my left rear tire had been swallowed by the wheel well. upon closer inspection, the wheel had come off the hub, and three of the four lug bolts were gone and the fourth one was just a few threads that were loose enough for me to hand loosen out of the hole. I jacked up the car high enough to get the tire off, and luckily there was no damage (yet to be seen) to anything mechanical minus the axle grease cap coming off and getting bent. i got the wheel and tire out and got under the streetlight to inspect it, and while there were minor scratches on the inside of the rim from the brake rotor, it didnt look like anything too bad. the rotor was still fully operational, and didnt have any visible damage or warping. the tire, however, is fuct. when it got tucked up into the wheel well, the inner lip of the fender chewed pretty good into the top of the sidewall, so im gonna need at least one new tire. the thing is, i had it in for service including a rear axle bearing at mbvw, so this may mean that it was a result of a shop screw up. But, im not sure what else could have or did happen, but this means new rubber and maybe even new wheels soon. oh well. one mistake leads to a good thing, so im not too worried.
