Jane loses herself in anger when she fights, a deep hot anger that leaves her cool and calm and collected on the outside. It scares Neil, with his brief angers and his easy forgiveness, and sometimes he thinks Jane is a dynamo just turning and turning and turning and generating anger, soon to explode or implode or otherwise go down fighting.
It's a way to fight the growing cold, the chilling sick fear that sends strong men nightmares when they lie in bed; much as it frightens Neil, it also soothes him.
Neither of them show it to anyone but each other.
